Thanks for the Welcome Dick...I've poked around this site for a few days and really like it...everyone seems very considerate of one another and I am looking forward to learning new thing and maybe even meeting some new fishing partners if there are any in my area..Thanks again, Mike
hey thanks for letting me on the forum. i was just wondering im new to the lake palistine area and was wondering if there is anyone from the area on here that would not mind sharing some info about the lake. such as refering some spots to try and some types of bait. i have been out a few times only to come back with a few cats but i really love some big blue gill and or crappie/white perch.
Thanks for the welcome Dick! My memories of fishin with my dad were the best when we hooked some bluegills! The thought of almost burnin my mouth on the first bite of a sizzlin 3 or 4 incher comin outta the skillet makes my mouth water! I look forward to exchangin info and pix and most of all GILLS!
Oh sure i could help you out im working on making my page cincinnatti reds right now since its baseball season ill switch back to UK during basketball lol
Thanks for the welcome! I ran across this site in the "InFisherman" article about Richmond Mill Pond. I've guided for crappie on Buggs Island lake in VA since I retired 6 yrs ago. Been fishin 250-300 days a yr since retirement, but fished nearly that much before retirement! I consider myself a multi-species fisherman, but Bluegill an "crackers are among my favorites. Never pass up the opportunity to flick a poppin bug for some big Gills an have started many children fishin by puttin'em on a bed where I put on crickets an take off bluegills! Lookin forward to sharing with Y'all!
Thank you, for the welcome Dick. I just built a new pond and I need help doing this one right. In the past I have stocked a few ponds that I think I made a poor choice of fish. perhaps with some help I can improve those mistakes.
Thanks for the welcome Dick. What a great site. Grew up fishing for bluegill just about every weekend except when the crappie were biting. Need to pass that on to my younger nieces and nephews. I love fishing with a fly rod and really, just getting back in to it after years no not going. I will look around and find out how this site functions as I am sure most of my questions are already answered in here somewhere. Thanks again Dick. Tim
Thanks for the welcome , I know , long time in coming.....been very busy , and even could not find the site again...don't know why...have so many e mails saved it is probably about 100 pages back on my computer! Anyway , I have found the site (again) thanks to Fishing Informer , and am going to see where I might get notifications from time to time ....so I do not lose the site anymore!
Thanks for the welcome message, Dick! This site is great; I think I'll definitely be using it for expert advice/opinion on bluegill fishing.
As far as bluegill fishing goes, I was once a crawler only guy, then a hybrid fly/crawler bluegill fisherman, now I fish almost exclusively for them with a fly rod. My goal is to catch trophy size bluegill on the fly in Virginia's Claytor Lake. If you or anyone you know have tips on fly fishing for 'gills in deep water, I'm all ears!
Thanks for the welcome and this site is the coolest thing on the Internet first day I have been a member and already found some great tips and plastics that I have already ordered.
I have a question about how to get the profile picture on I have an iPod that I use to come on here but I also have and iPad and computers I can use if I have to wait her one is fine but when I go to put on my profile picture on it won't let me
Thank you very much for the acceptance and warm welcoming to the family. I am very excited to be a member fo the BBG Family. I having been fishing for bluegill since the age of 8 when my grandmother would take me fishing with her and my granduncle. I have loved it eversince. Fastforword 32 years later, now I have honor of passing the tradition on to my children. I recently rekindled my love for bluegill fishing and since March 2013; I have been metal to the floor.
Sounds good Dick........Let me know what specific questions you have and I'll try to help.......We were friends already Dick just had to clear up the Admin......LOL
I prefer a 1/32 ounce jig in the Summer months in my region Dick......I feel it provides a better chance to target the quality gills of a particular colony and gives me a chance to land predators such as largemouth and channel cats when they hit........I tip on almost every occasion as you might know already........I like a pretty big bait when I target quality gills in the 10" and higher variety........I'm fishing in water right now that is in the high 70s and lower 80s so I'm going shallow around weeds and cover at 12-24 inches under a float......Split shot is optional, I use a small spit shot to improve casting proficiency........If I went to a new body of water tomorrow, I would start with pink or chartreuse and wouldn't hesitate to try red or brown either.......I like multi colors on new water to expand my chances....easier to find a color that may work in a certain river or lake.........Good luck and feel free to ask me whatever you come up with and I'll at least give you an opinion......Good Luck!
Cool deal Dick......if it helps you catch a few I'll be happy.......have a great time on your trip......My 2013 family vacation is winding down but we've had a blast and it's our second best season in the last ten years behind only 2011....
Thanks, Dick! it's gonna take me a while to get familiar with the way things work as far as leaving posts, answering posts, etc. so I'll need all the help you can give!
"don't be afraid to share some of your fishing experiences with us we would love to hear about them please don't be afraid to share your exact lakes with me with all GPS coordinates and the exact baits you used it will be our little secret."
Hah!
I didn't think this was a comedy site..
Thank you for the welcome. Bluegills few and far between so far this summer - too hot in southern Michigan/ However the crappies have been hungry and catchable
Wow Dick !,what a beautiful package of bugs, poppers and nymphs you made up and sent me ! Superb work !!THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I have a Christmas CD I recorded of my solo Guitar arrangements ready to send out to you today .I really hope you ,your family and friends enjoy the music while sharing good times together !
Dick, if your into making a bunch I would be interested in purchasing a few give me an address and ill send ya a check if you decide ..another member tied me a bunch of top water foam flies ...those grass shrimp would really do well down here in Florida ....thanks either way
Paul
Dick, I am an advid fisherman and will enjoy your friendship. I have joined for another reason! I am just starting to raise blue gills aquaponically . This is a set up just like in nature. I have a large fish tank in which I raise blue gills which are fed carnivorus food they in turn poop and give off Nh3 which contaminates the water. This water is pumped to fill a grow bed filled with worms and bacteria that changes the waste into nitrates. These nitrates are the ideal fertilizer for the plants I will grow. I have seedlings of carrots, beans, radishes, lettece growing ready to be transplanted into the grow bed. This is pure organic farming with great blue gills as a secondary crop. I plan to grow huge blue gills whose pictures I plan to post on this page. Is this not cool? Terry
Dick ..spoke to my wife just b4' said shrimp imitations arrived safe and sound, going back to Oregon next week and then heading out to central Oregon for some lake fishing following week for bass bluegills .. Will definitely put them to the test, I have a feeling small mouth bass are going to devour them ...thanks again will keep you posted .....Paul
Dick .... You are one of the great people to walk this earth ...many thanks again I cannot thank you enough ......at the end of August going on a float trip down the John day river in Oregon for smallmouth ...will put em to the test ...I'm telling you those grass shrimp will murder smallies ...
Paul
No, Thank You Very Much Dick. I appreciated your welcome note. I am still trying to figure my way around things here on BBG. It's been a bit tricky but I'm sure I will figure it out.
I have one primary objective for myself and that is to find a good blue gill fishing spot in or around Colorado Springs where my eight year old granddaughter lives.
I have been an avid fisherman since an early age and have passed this onto our kids and now their kids. Rileigh our eight year old granddaughter caught her first trout at five at a fishout pond in Manitou Springs and has been a good study, picking up more advanced skills quickly. I have written her a tutorial on various types of fish; where to catch them in Colorado; and different techniques; but I have yet to take here blue gill fishing.
Blue gill fishing was how I learned to fish and how I taught our four children to fish. The method we used is called the cork loop method and we still use it today. As our kids got older we took them white bass fishing along the face of a reservoir in Kansas and they would out catch other fishermen by four to one using this method. It’s an easy way to teach young kids to fish and I hope to pass this idea and several others along on BBG once I figure out how to Blog here.
My second passion is organic gardening and I have been vermiculturing for many years using red wigglers. These wigglers are excellent bait for yellow perch and blue gill, and the method I use is quite simple. I have written a blog for Dave’s Garden which I could copy to BBG once I learn how. Any assistance you might give me on that Dick would be greatly appreciated. Again TYVM.
Thanks for the welcome. I have always been a BG fisherman, ultralite and 4# line is where its at for me. I live in N Alabama, 45min from the famous Guntersville Lake which usually is known for it's largemouth bass. With the way its structure is, the lake also is home to some good slab BGs as well. My wife and I are fishing partners of 20+ years. We took the boat out yesterday morning and caught 23 slabbers in less than 2 hours. The bait of choice here is brown crickets on a #6 cricket hook and 4# line, balsa bobber. I normally fish with a 1 1/2" crawfish jig on a 1/32oz jighead and wear em out on the rocks also
Thanks for inviting me aboard. I love to fish and have been lookig for something like this site for years. My favorite fish is the Bluegill. To me the add mor excitement and taste better than any other fish there i in Tennessee anyway. Everyon ges crazy over catfish here, but most have not had the experiences I have had with bluegill.
