Nope, no pond! It would have to be at least 9 acres and a minimum of 20 feet deep for anything to survive the winters up here. I'm 111 miles for Canada!
What state are you from? This can help us get together for fishing trips!
NEAT site for those who love the sound of a 9.5 in Gill suching in a popper. I always knew there was something special about guys that chase Bluegills. I am a bit quick with my 2# than with this computer!
Hey, I took a listen down Slave Raider lane, and remember the tune Make Some Noise. I tried not to get too glam in that time of my youth. Motley Crue was the only hair band I claimed. Iron Maiden and Judas Priest dominated my records and tapes. I guess they still kinda do. I'm impressed by your liking of Quiet Riot. I washed a bunch of dishes to Metal Health and Ronny James Dio as a kid. Your comments are always appreciated my MN brother!
Hey BullWorm, Thanks for your kind comment about my RedBreast Sunfish! I always let any Panfish (Gill, Crackers, RedBreast, etc) go that are 9 inches or above as of course, they are the Broodstock of the pond and keep the "Super Genes" in that particular body of water!! I still take photos and will let the Taxidermist do a Fiberglass replica of any true monster that I'm lucky enough to land!!! Tight Lines and keep those awesome photos comin!!!
That's such a cool nickname I probably don't want to know what it means. There is something I would like ask about though. You recently replied to a blog with a pic of a 10"er cut out. I think I recall an earlier mention that you work at a graphic design business.
If you have read any of my posts you have probably figured out I don't have a clue about a lot and have a strange way of revealing that. Well I have got a really strange picture in my head for a T-shirt design I would love to have. It involes a real bad bluegill. I mean bad. Freshwater terrorist is what he is. Getting the elaborate picture in my head onto a computer screen, much less a T-shirt, involves a lot more than I can imagine. I guess... I did imagine this bad gill!. Anyway, would you help me get it out of my head with a dose of reality, or a map to a real picture for a T-shirt that only cost a few hundred or so?
rats, I wish I didnt have something going on this saturday. you and John will have a grerat time. are you going in the tubes?
Thanks for the invite, what area are you fishing? How would the first saturday in september work?
Thanks bullworm (what is a bullworm anyways?) I hope we can get out this year though! find out what weekends you want to go, and we will see! do you ice- fish too?
got any pics of the cranks you made...... theres nothing more rewarding than catching fish on somethin you made yourself. Even if its a yella ear plug with a hook! Yep it works.
I coulde likely go the second weekend in september.
october is great for gills too, but you are way up north so you are probably hunting by then.
good luck this weekend! take lots of pics! I am busy most of saturday, but i might get out for a couple of hours in the evening....
not so strange, I am not a hunter either,I just asumed you were because you said "one last outing" . dont you fish in october and november? how about the weekend of sept 12-13th? or oct 3-4th, those are the two weekend i have open for sure
Yeah, I only post here when I'm "bluegilling." I tried some of that a couple days ago on Deer Lake but couldn't find anything?? It was one of our first HOT days and upon arriving at the access, my radiator boiled over. Full story is on my fishing blog.
Or else, go on Lake State Fishing, where I go by the user name "Tuff Enuff" (after my Tuffy boat, and click on the link at the bottom of my posts. Re: Deer - I normally get them along a certain weedline during this time of year but have bombed there on my last two outings??
Beautiful Images Pat!.....Some very nice gills in that body of water.....The crappies and northern were just added extra action!......It was a good day!...Thanks again!
Was out once last week for gills, did ok no monsters but theres still time for that. I have recently switched gears our local harbor in Kenosha is now currently inundated with Brown Trout,Rainbows and soon to be kings and some large northerns so I will be making frequent trips there to catch some hogs.I'll finally be putting up pics of fish other than perch it was just a great run on them this year so I took full advantage of it.
Dont have inland lakes where you can catch those 12inchers and up consistently. However I did see a 40 inch northern perch fishing earlier this yuear and hope to hook up with him in the next couple of months.
If i was currently making more money i would be taking the boat out much more but Lake Michigan ios like 2 minutes from me so fishing is no problem, just a matter of going.Good luck with your classes.
Caught 25 to 30 that evening these were all about 9". Then just played ,2 were 13" the rest were 9 to 13" any thing bigger than 10" goes back for brood stock. Kept just enough to make me full and sleepy.
Hey BW, what's up? I just talked to a friend of mine last night who is from around you way and he just made me squirm with all the Minnesota fishing stories he had. Makes me want to take a long road trip. He also said I could sell my house and likely buy two up in your state! Sheeesh! Hundreds of lakes? Wow!
Wow, BW...what a nice comment! I sure do appreciate your hospitality and encouragement to check out the great northern abundance of fishing! I may never check it out, but then I just might. I have a chance to retire with a few early options by Jan 1 st, but I haven't got it all figured out yet. I may do seasonal park ranger work here in MD as I have done it full time for 20 years. Winters are rough on me with a number of medical issues, but I am still tickin' and am in better shape than most 58 year olds. Talk to ya, brother!
Practice, Practice, Practice.
There are a ton of websites out there that can help you. Youtube is one of the good ones. Just serch for flytying and you"ll see more thatn you know what to do with.
Sounds good Patrick, I would like to get up there for some ice cold bluegill action, let me know when you get on them!
I am going to try aitken lake again, got some nice ones a couple of weeks ago...
Hey Bull Worm...what does a person do when the daytime high is -15 ? I'm freakin out and our lowest temps have been 15 above! Daytime highs still around freezing.
Patrick -Go get them Gills today and good luck.I got some near bottom between noon and 4 yesterday and then up in the column for the last hour between 4-5.Was fishing 12-15 ' of water.Shallow lake .The other day I was getting them in 20' near bottom on another lake.
Cool! glad you are back! lets talk fishin! when are the 'gills going to get to biting? looking at doing some tubing in the aitkin area early this summer looking for that 12 inch hog sunfish haha
Hi Patrick-If your interested in purchasing my music you can search me on ITUNES and buy downloads or order CD's directly from my music website: http://www.johnsheehan.net/CDs.html
Very much appreciate you enjoying my music and hopefully telling friends about my musical efforts.
That banana pudding fight was over forty years ago and I never had a clue why she started it (but she knows). We laugh about it whenever we think about it (caution; don't think about it too deep). We were angry, but it is a good memory. You'll both make mistakes with each other. The trick is to hang together long enough to laugh about them.
So...you are taking your wife ice fishing for the first time, ehh? I did that about 32 years ago with my new bride...didn't work out too well. She got cold, but hung in there.
