Got it on the Arkansas River while electrofishing for Catfish. Nothing special about taking care of it. Feed it 2 worms every few days

auger (drill) holes and measure. in a pond or small body of water i'll start where i think it is deepest and make as many holes as i can and try them all.
  • James Feasel

generally you need 4 inches or more of clear clean ice. you should go with someone experienced your first few times. so you can learn how to be safe.
  • James Feasel

yeah that's a dead bluegill in the ice. one of my ponds had a winterkill last winter.
  • Marvin R. DeBuyser

We fish Black Lake, NY the first weekend of June. Gills are just finishing spawning and on the bite. The lake is shallow and dark, so water warms early there. Will have to wait til spring to check temps when we go again. Will let you know.

when you'r on turn up your chat volume. this is what you do, go to the top of the page, click chat on the right (its on the menue bar) then when you get there put up the volume which is next to the smilie face, and the computer volume because the beep is very soft. this is because if someone trys to talk to you the chat volume is on mute you wont know they are there. if you want to talk to someon just copy and paste this message.

Awhile back, Bruce Almighty (aka Bruce Condelo) had a contest for kids with prizes for winners. He hoped to raise money I think to pay for the prizes by selling a few BBG.com logo items. I tried to take the test but it was too hard for Boogiemen. Some kids passed it though.

Anyway, go to his blog, BIG BLUEGILL SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST and the link for gear is on there. I tried puttin' it here but this is what happened. http://shop.cafepress.com/design/32371654

Hey Dale...the fish are...1,chain pickerel, 38-channel catfish, 53-striped bass @ 17 lbs, and 56 is a 46 lb 10 oz blue catfish that my son got out of the Potomac River. The blue net in question is a 'keep net' that fits inside a 5 gal bucket and keeps bluegills lively or on ice.
  • Sarah T.

    i have no idea
  • Sarah T.

    weeekends
  • James Feasel

The fish in pic #9 are 8.5 inch bluegill. There is snow on top of the ice. When you catch them, toss 'em in a pile. They flip around a little and cover themselves in the snow.
  • James Feasel

for ice fishing i use a couple of $10 Schooley's with spring bobbers and i have a couple Rapala spinning outfits.
for open water i use 6', 6 1/2' light action rods in graphite, composite and even fiberglass on the slip float rig. Looking to buy a 7 footer.
  • Tom Beauchamp

I don't know, I suppose it's possible. My grandmother on my fathers side remarried so have had little contact with the Beauchamps except my own brothers and sisters.
  • MIke Davis

Sorry for the late return depends on time of the year and conditions of the water. Early in the spring here in Nebraska when the gills are spawning we use floating spiders near the beds and later in the season wooly worms and in the fall we found that the carp tease works great.
  • Greg McWilliams

Dale go to www.flyanglersonline.com They have step by step instructions for tyer. The also have a lot of good patterns from beginners to experianced tyers.

Been gone for Deer season. mmmmm, Deer.
  • Walt Foreman

Hey Dale, thanks for the comment. There are lots of shellcracker that size in that pond, and there will be some sizably bigger than that within a year or two as I just started working with it again after living in L.A. for ten years. The owner is letting me run guided trips on the pond (it's six acres, good-sized pond), and I also have several other smaller ponds nearby that I guide on, so if you ever want to head down to TN, I can put you on some big sunfish.
  • Tom S.

the fish in pic 7 was dead,in pic 8 was a tiny large mouth bass,i catch most of every thing in philpot lake and private ponds
  • Walt Foreman

They're old phosphate pits, created back in the 1920's when TVA was mining the county for phosphate; my grandfather actually worked as a supervisor for TVA out at the mines for a couple years long before I was born. They're beautiful ponds though. The one that has the big shellcracker now has two houses on it, but they're nice houses and nice people, and you almost forget the houses are there when you're in a johnboat fishing the far bank and you catch one of those big shellcracker. That particular pond has a couple holes close to forty feet deep; my grandfather claimed there's a backhoe sitting at the bottom of that pond in a deep spot, they hit a spring and couldn't get it out of there quick enough; one of the property owners says he's seen something yellow close to the surface out near the middle at times of drought.

I have nine other ponds I'm working with that don't have any houses on them; they range from a quarter-acre to two acres each. I also work with a 56-acre lake that has a lodge on it that's available for people coming in from out of town.

picture #21 is a spotted sunfish. It is a true Blue....Or red as its named. I will be mounting this fish soon.
  • Jim Gronaw

Hey Dale...the blue net is actually a 'keep sack' that fits over top of a 5 gal bucket and keeps panfish alive and it can also just be thrown in the water with a rope attached to the boat or shoreline. Got it at bass Pro. 7 bucks.
  • Patrick "Bullworm" Olson

Hey Dale! I got the float tubes from Cabelas! We love them! It is so much fun to fish from! Each one was only 205$. Very reasonbly priced!
  • Chris Stewart

    Hi Dale,
Sorry to be so long getting back to you. I haven't been on the board for a while. I mostly fish a private pond my friend has permission to fish on - that and Lake Mahopac (the pond's better).
  • Chris Stewart

Tried to fish Kensico once, but I had a tenkara rod (a type of fly rod) that day and couldn't find a place where there was room for a backcast. I think you either need a boat or a spinning rod. Actually, you really need a boat for any of the NYC reservoirs I think.
  • Chris Stewart

You can get the permit online now. http://a826-web01.nyc.gov/recpermitapp/permitrec.aspx.
  • Nate Herman

    Dale,
I get all the emails for hbpondmanagement and try to answer them all ASAP. Typically in a months time I will answer well over 1500 emails, except in May, June and July that number is twice as much.

Anyhow please shoot me over another email or ask your questions on this site and I will do my best to answer your question or will come up with something! Sometimes emails get lost in space or end up in junk mail folders.
  • Nate Herman

Email em anytime. Busy season is 12 months a year, just typically lots more pond questions during the summer. Answering pond questions leads to tons of work and product sales, and even if a question doesnt indirectly lead to a sale, it always comes around later. That is the key to growing an online business and developing a good reputation. Emails are powerful stuff in terms of reaching a large audience.

Thanks a lot for the comment I'll be posting pics in a few weeks after I go fishing
  • Magnolia Rick

got some but haven't had time to up load them yet
  • Chris Stewart

Other than that I only know about the reservoirs - Kensico, Croton, Cross River, Muscoot,Titicus, Amawalk, Croton Falls, West Branch, East Branch. I've never fished most of them, but I think they all have bluegills - and all require a reservoir permit. There are a bunch of lakes in Harriman State park that have bluegills also.
  • Magnolia Rick

ya I have a fountain on both end my pond
  • Tim C. Homesley

    Hello back at ya :)
