Thanks for joining the Cane pole crazy group. I think it will be a fun, laided backed topic to chat about. It will be cool showing off our long pole catches this summer!!!!!!!
You're welcome, but the reality is that YOU are the reason this is such a great site. Before all the enthusiastic people like you showed up it was just words and pictures. Now it's friends and sharing and sittin' around the campfire!
Yea thats my music... I love banjo but guitar is my main thing!Glad you like the tunes!Gotta chat with you about something thats been bothering me about the White River.I'll keep in touch.
Trout is great here, that is all my husband will fish for here. I love it when someone catches a little pumpkin seed and a large mouth bass jumps out of no where trying to take the pumpkin seed from the hook--My daughter almost caught both of them on one hook.

About a month ago I heard from the owner of 'Big D's Doghouse', a bar in lower Greenville, that 13 or so years ago he use to fish the White River with great success near his bar but the state screwed up the fishing with some sort of Salmon stocking program. He was quite bitter about it.He did say the River was fishable south of lower Greenville.
Thanks Howard .The White river was beautiful but seemed devoid of life when I was there in Upper Greenville at the end of March.I dont want to come across accusatory until I hear more or someone from the Vermont Fish and Wildlife department admits a blunder!
Hey Howard, I've never caught a White Perch but I used to talk to some of my fishin buddies (when I lived down in Virginia) about them and apparently they love small minnows (very similar to Crappies). Fished several places with my buddies that had White Perch in them but just didn't catch any. They apparently are a schooling fish just like Crappies and Bluegills and apparently are very good eatin as well!!! According to my buddies, they will take small spoons (tiny Kastmasters, smallest Johnson Silver Minnows, etc) that look like small minnows readily and if you get into a school of them, the action is apparently non-stop!!! Hope this is helpful!!
Hey Howard, try using a lightweight steel leader or else some green Sonic Braid in 30 to 40 lb test for a nice , tough, yet supple leader for those pike. I would use a Mutu Light Circle hook at 4/0 to 6/0, depending on the size of your pike. Run a slip bobber so the shiner can move around from 3 to 7 ft deep. Hook the shiner through both eyes or lightly behind the top dorsal fin. Check out our rigs for bait on big largemouths in this months ( June) In Fisherman. The Rawlings shiner rig may be your best option for those pike. Good luck!
Hey Howard....good for you and your wife! I am glad that the shiner rig worked for you. Looks like that bass took it really deep...with circle hooks, all you need to do is just tighten up and reel in the fish. We haven't killd a fish in several seasons of shiner fishing like this. Congrats!
Hey Howard, Thanks for the comment on my Hybrid!!! I also caught mine about 30 minutes before dusk....I'm with you in that they seem to hit better at that time of day!!! My wife and I are headin up to Lake Champlain on 6/19/09 for a long awaited Honeymoon (I don't know which area except that it's on Vermont side, but I hope that I can get into some nice Sunfish there)!!! Tight Lines!!!
Hey Howard, Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it!!! I'm really lookin forward to the trip and can't wait to get some fishin in "On the BIG Water!!!!"
Hey Howard, Thanks for all the great tips!!! Had a real blast fishing Champlain--caught some awesome fish of all different species!!! Hope you can check out the photos on my page--I can't wait to get back there and fish it some more!!!
Hey Howard, I fished alot of places including Malletts Bay, The Gut, Plattsburg area, and North Hero area (on Alburg Passage). Lake cottage we stayed in was in North Hero (on Alburg Passage).
when you write or talk to him, ask him about victory tower or tank hill. Rennaisance Man was filmed there with Danny Devito back in my time. God bless him and tell him Huuaa! from me!
The St. Johns river originates in west Vero bch FL and runs North to Jacksonville FL and then out into the ocean. It is the only river in FL that flows North. It's a pretty good Bluegill fishery as well as Bass.
That was a blast. Thanks a ton Howard for filling me in on your boy. Give him a big HUUUUAAAAA!!! for me. God bless him and your family! You are good people!!
i have 2 fish books. i think it was made by goldenbook or something like that. i try to get fresh water ones. i only have (title) Fishes, (not fish) and i think the other one is flys. im not shure bu i got to get off now so if you could say something that would be nice.
i remember the second book it is a book called Fishing. on the side it sais "A Golden Guide From St Martins Press". do you have any of thoes books that say that on the side?
Hey Howard...indeed tip-up fishing is both permitted and popular at DCL...most of the bigger northerns this year were tip-up fish, with top specimens going 14 to almost 20 lbs. Annually, walleyes to 10 lbs and chain pickerel to 24 in are taken. We have taken gills up to 11 1/2 in. It's quite a lake, but you have to work to catch the fish, like any place else, there is a learning curve.
Thanks Howard . Look for more fly photos until I get out on the lakes. Ilost all my old photos (oops) so I'm starting over. Awsome slide show , There are some nice fish. Have fun and catch lots of fish.
