Hey, nice to meet you. Glad to see a local here as well. Right at this moment I'm in Kuwait, Camp Arifjan working for the military. I will be home in Oct. I cant wait to get my 2 sons and the boat out on the water. Hope to find some good fishing holes
  • Jerrod

Thanx for the friendly welcome, hope to have pic's up soon!
  • Patrick "Bullworm" Olson

Hello Boogieman! A circle hook is a short , very short shanked hook and the point is bent inward. These hooks are designed to hook fish in the corner of the mouth instaniously preventing a swallowed hook. Google it, awesome hooks!
  • Dave Oswalt

Thanks, gills are my passion. I found this site searching for some new tactics.

    Hello Boogieman,
Thanks for the welcome to the site. I do have a bit of a problem trying to figure out how to operate on this site. This is the only one I have ever been a part of. I did read the review on the tool and found it to be very nice. I am some what like the fellow that said he would make one only this tool turned out to quite an effort to make. I hope I can add to the overall knowledge of the group as an avid fly fisherman. There are some HUGE gills on this site and I would love to catch one on my 2#. I have never caught one as big as these but only fish foam poppers and underwater spiders and it seems hard to fool the really big ones.
Thanks again for the GOOD words,
    Terry
  • Mac

Nice pictures! Makes me want to go fishing.
  • Mac

I agree. I love the quiet back water ponds and rivers. We have some beautiful places here in N. Florida. Great site!
  • Mac

Thanks for the welcome to the site. You have some great looking places to fish.
  • Patrick "Bullworm" Olson

Boogieman, That is a sweet nickname as well!! Somme of my buddies started calling me bullworm bcause I'm a big ol'boy, 6' 1" and comin' in at 300 or so and I fish! FISH ALOT! I would love to help you out with your idea. As a matter of fact I'm working on a drawing of a gill that you my be interested in. Give me a couple of days and I will have it posted in my pictures.
  • Patrick "Bullworm" Olson

Boogieman, That is one sweet nickname your self! My buddies started calling me bullworm. It might be because I'm 6'-1" or so and pushing 300. That could be the bull part, worm...cause I fish alot, ALOT!! Its funny you asking about a design, I just so happen to be working on a drawing of a bull gill! Give me a couple of days here and I will have it posted in my pictures. If you like it I can send it to ya! Take care friend!
  • Dan Gwaltney

Hey Boogieman, thanks for the kind welcome! We're not that far apart, ya know. I do most of my fishing on Lake Talquin, but I want to learn Seminole. I just got a boat to fish from last week, so I'm ready to do some exploring. I've been fishing with a buddy for quite a while from his boat, so I was pretty much tied to what he wanted to do. I feel like a free man, now!

Hey, I've had this crazy notion for a little while now. There is a point in the middle of the Chattahoochee where Fla, Ga, and Ala all come together. That point is also bisected by the line between Eastern and Central time. I thought it would be cool to anchor on that spot and try to fight a fish through 3 states and 2 time zones. Not sure anybody has ever done that! :-D
  • Jim Gronaw

Hey BBM, thanks for the insight. I must say this, everything I have, including my home, is paid in full, therefore I have better options than most. Thanks again, Jim
  • Dale Fortin

if you fly fish, what is the best lure you use?
  • jdphish

I figure Dan G. says your good fella. He didn't say good at what. But knowing DanG like you says, I ain't ginna ask.

I just hope you ain't one of them fella's that wastes the best part of a bluegill by filleting it. Man alive. Them folks are missing the best part. The tailfin.

And thanks for the welcome, I think. Naw, I preshateit.
  • Dan Gwaltney

Hey Boogie, I thought I answered your question a while ago but I don't see it now. My email is dizzydan at yahoo and I don't care who knows it or sends me anything. Ain't skeert. Shoot me something with a phone number on it!
  • Tom Cadenhead

It's real, Honest-to-God Scotch.. I mean.. Scottish. Came from around the Boarders with a story about a geographical fixture. And that's the truth! Would I lie? I'm a fisherman.
    ......from the south South. :-)
  • Tom Cadenhead

My Daddy!! DanG that feller! I'm still trying to teach that boy how to grow hair on his head.
That must be perplexin', having those bream run and hide like that. I have to be real quiet when I get near the water, if I want to go fishing. I'm so handsome that they keep jumping in the boat. I tried to put the boat in last week and the ramp got so loaded with fish I almost didn't get the truck out, so I decided to bank fish. Like to have got thrown in jail. Seems the bank don't like that too much.
  • Leon E Evans

Thank you for the welcome, I look forward to visiting this site - most of my buddies think bluegill fishing is not worth the time - I enjoy catching and eating bluegillbut even after all these years, I haven't learned the art of catching big onessss.
  • Leon E Evans

Thanks guy for the welcome, I hope I am online for the blogging, which I have never done before - but I am trying this because I love bluegill fishing and want to learn more so I can catch more, the more I catch the more I can eat (smile) I am going out to a farm pond today with my crickets -
  • bluegillboogieman

Well Leon, crickets is the best advice I got for you. If you want to learn other methods, go to the discussion tab up top and start reading backwards through them. All kinds of questions, all kinds of answers. The Blog tab is where you ramble on just to hear yourself talk. Not much discussion on it but some good reading. Groups get into details in specific ways. Some are real active and some are on slow movin' if you know what I mean. Have a go at any of it and post some questions or answers. If you ask any questions that I can answer, hold on. Mine won't be like the sane answers you get.

    Boogieman
  • Ron Pickens

sorry bout that fellers....I was just in a rush to get signed up....I was at work and did not have much time to spend on here yet....I will continue updating as I can..fish on......
  • Ron Pickens

yes, i figured you had a good since of humor like mine...I am hoping to be able to add some more pictures this spring..fishing season is almost wrapped up for me....It gets awful cold on a lake when the temperature is in the 30's......
  • Lord of the Fly , Rods

Boo man, yes I rig my line with porcupine quill, it's the most sensitive strike indicator there is, it's also my depth finder, because when it's laying on it's side on top of the water I know Im on bottom and I quickly shorten the distance between quill and float to put it at the correct depth, now as for casting, I shorten my cast to 25 feet because the cricket on the hook won't take the abuse of normal casting. Gently cast quill and cricket toward bream and hold on, after a little practice you can catch fish without the quill going under. when there just licking it, split shot should be 6 to 8 inches above a number 6 or 8 long shank hook, I prefer the no.8 wire hook because if I get hung up all I have to do is pull on the flyline and the hook will straighten out and release, I like my quills to stick up above the water 2 to3 inches and I paint the tops with a floresent orange for better visibality. I used this tecnique for over 40 years and it's almost as effective as a net. Another benefit of this type of fishing with a quill is once you run out of crickets and take the quill off and put on a bug or popper you are now a blackbelt with the flyrod, it's a wax on , wax off kind of thing. Hope this clears things up for you I know I have caught tons of bluegill like this,Good Luck P.S. The Bear wanted me to come to Bama and play football for him,a long time ago
  • Scott McNeillie

We are just outside the GSM NP near Whittier. Lots of trout left, I offer them little or no danger.
  • Lord of the Fly , Rods

The wire eye goes on the bottom, I use a o-ring instead of a rubber band to attach the line a little over half way up the quill , and use enought shot to balance the quill to stand up.
As for The Bear, not going to Alabama was a big a big mistake, but tried to please my Dad by going to his school, my line coach was jimmy johnson, what a A- HOLE

I'm pulling for Bama over Gators , They CHEAT.
  • Tim Roberts

Thanks bgb man, i never knew a site like this existed.
  • mike anderson

    thanks,
what is your choice of lure for bluegill? thanks Mike
  • Dale Fortin

where did you get that "bigbluegill.com" sticker from?
  • mike anderson

    thanks a ton.
  • Bruce Condello

Good idea about limited a certain person's "semi-private" discussion.

    :-)

I've been watching from afar because my "pooter" has been on the fritz. I think I'm finally back in action.

    I'll take care of it.
  • Frank Jones

Bruce is the MAN. We couldn't have gotten to fish without my Twin Troller boat, but without a "Bruce" lesson I would been watching him catch fish all afternoon.
  • jdphish

Yo boogerman, cachin enny gill's lately?
  • jdphish

When I was little kid you used to scare me. Not any more.

Why is it bass fishermen have "bassboats" and bluegill fisherman don't have "Bluegill Boats" with cricket boxes and a deep fryer built in the boat?
  • jdphish

Hey Booger, I would be honored to be your friend.
I wanna see your bluegill boat.

How did you know I couldn't fish. I don't have too, I grow them.
  • jdphish

So ya has a yaachet? You build it with a hatchet?

Boogieman your my horse....if you never win a race. Or us that catch a fish. LOL.

Maybe thats me that don't catch fish.

Be a good Booger. Thats why I didn't bother you around the Halloween. Figured you was scaring folks. Not just fish. LOL.

Glad you can take a joke.
  • jdphish

i know what your "I" means in your luxery "I yacht". The " I "means I wish......
Or does it mean...... In your dreams????

    Guess thats the same.

Okay, when we going fishing? Huh booger?turn that hearing aid up will ya?

Just so you won't be sad anymore, I caught a 5" bluegill baby today (previously had none). We're going to float out to the middle of our pond tomorrow and check out the depths. BTW, when I was looking for you, I noticed bluegillgoogiegal. Must be with you.
  • Bob Sortore

Thanks, I love the site. My kids think I'm crazy for chasing gills, but I'm addicted.
