Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have only caught Pickerel  and lost suspected Pickerel on clean breakoffs using  Tipups.I am anxious to try dead salted shiners on spoons for them at a local lake in a few days. Any one here have experience jigging Pickerel?Man I would love to experience that and will give it a try . Crappie ,Yellow and White Perch ,I have learned ,will take a dead bait ,so it's not just Catfish.Of course the jiggin' makes it appear alive ,dieing or being eaten by a spoon.HEH HEH! I gotta catch a Bass and a Pickerel this way. WTH, I catch them vertical jigging and horizontally snapping  a plain spoon at other times of the year ,so why not through the ice with a little salt flavor?I will probably only use half as I have some big minnows to use .Will experiment with head half, and tail half and full shiners and try to get them to hit .

Any tips?Would like to hear them.

YEAR OF THE PICKEREL ; 2017 Jan.... Greg and I jigged up close to 20 Pickerel two times out on the ice ,using  spoons and Jiggin' Raps with shiner heads or tails tipped on the hook .A favorite Crappie technique is paying off big for Pickerel too!

Deadsticked Frostee spoon/waxie.. noon @15' near bottom..one small hit and lost a fish jiggin a minnow head on a 1/4 oz Krocodile  spoon

Not a frostee but a doodle bug spoon 16th oz.

Very good Pickerel outing 1/10/17 with brother Greg . We got 8 jigging spoons tipped with shiner heads or tails.Only two on tip ups with live shiners . The mobility of Jigging is a great  advantage . Greg got 4 using a thin small silver Lujon spoon . I got 6 with a 1/4 oz . Gold /Green Prism tape Swedish Pimple .

Pickerel on Fire through the ice ! In two times out Brother Greg and I have caught 23! Jigging spoon tipped with shiners heads and tails or whole on Swedish Pimples ,Jiggin' Raps, Buckshot spoons and Kastmasters have taken it to them .

Took a 1/3rd oz. Swedish Pimple with salted shiner head .February 2018
