Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

2015.12.17-With the continued above normal temps thru December and continuing thru near mid January I don’t really see safe ice till the last 25% of January. February has typically been ice maintenance month with little gained or loss. Long range weather says warmer winter thru spring so it appears to be a shortened ice fishing season.

so here is a graph just two days later showing a huge takeaway for us ice fisherman... its now showing above normal temps all the way thru January taking away our extreme cold period the last 25% of the month. hey I know weather is unpredictable reaching that far out in the future but this is disappointing. looking like an even mix of below freezing lows and above freezing highs generally for each day. tough scenario to grow safe ice.

2015.12.19 - December 2015.... incredible above normal temps... just extends transition period for fishing.... brutal brutal

2015.12.19 -... looks like no ice for December

20160111- we have a good 3-4 " on Wixom Lake... looking for some really good ice by thursday...

Most of the lakes down here are locked up.  No idea how thick, though.  I have heard that last week, one of the local millponds had a flip-over ice shack on it for several days.

where are you from allen. im in the lowere part of michigan, and the lakes i fish are the smaller ones.

I'm in the Jackson area.

I'm in Buchanan which is about 10 miniutes from the Indiana Michigan state line. and just yesterday I finally got on the lake for the first time this year. had 5 inches where I was fishing.

I live in souther mi and was surprised just last week. I went out to a local lake and found only 2 to 3 inches of ice, and it wasn't good ice either.

John i hear ya.... i see a lot of dissapointed ice fisherman posting on the forums about thin or unsafe ice. i went out last week on a small protected BOW that formed 5" of solid ice here in Mid Michigan (Gladwin County). ice has been unsafe on the larger reservoirs like Wixom Lake that has now just broke the 4" mark.

first ice fishing up hear even though its late has been greatly disappointing... very few numbers of quality fish... or slot fish

a good source of ice conditions could be found on the Michigan Sportsman Forum

just be safe out there... hope you have a chance to get out .
