Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I went out to some ponds yesterday,  the air temp was 58 F the water was cold. I fished two different flies...both caught fish. With  the Super Cypret Minnow, I caught two nice Copper-head gills and one small bass. With the new sinking spider I caught 3 hand-size copper-head gills. The minnow works well any time of the year and this was the first time I have fished the new sinking spider. I only fished about 1 1/2 hours total so that was a pretty good catch with the water being that cold. I think the new sinking spider is going to be a real winner, I can't wait to fish it in the spring. I am not that great at tying soft hackle.....so I used medium rubber legs instead. That along with chenille, gold flash, lead wire and a gold bead is all there is to it. I will try to post a couple pictures.....Happy New Year to all...Don in SC

Don, nice work!  Do you have a Step-by-Step on the Cypert Super Minnow?  I've got a Cypert minnow in my box, and I'm wondering what the difference between the regular and super version.

I will see if I can throw together a step x step on the minnow, give me a little time........Don in SC

Allen, go to YouTube and search "cypret minnow". Look for the video posted by (texas river bum) that step by step is way better than anything I could put together. I believe I am not supposed to post the link here...but just search Youtube for it and you will be good-ta-go................Don in SC

Were not supposed to post links to YouTube?

Oh crap, Im doomed....

Most boards don't want you to post links to youtube......something about copy right crap.....Don

"Crap" is right.

Okay, I get it. But its YouTube, not A&E.

You got it right - it's ca-rap.

allen i tie a similar jig i use on a jig spin.that is mylar braided tubing folded over and tyed at the rear if that helps.

Allen, just google the Cypert Minnow.

There are several good SBS's and a nice YouTube vid.

Ok, I think I get it.....

I've seen the video from Texas River Bum, last year.  I've got at least one Cypert Minnow.  I just didn't know if there was any difference between what I have and the Cypert SUPER Minnow.  Looks like the "Cypert Super Minnow" is the full name of the fly?

The Super has a thread head added behind the eye to hold things together. It also uses gel thread and a lot of cement to bind it all. There s a good YouTube vid for it - just do a search.

The original minnow bait was getting torn up after 20-30 fish, so the folks in TX made the super improvements.

20-30 fish? Youre kidding right?
