Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is gonna be a great group.  There are not many times that I fish with live bait due to a overabundance of turtles on the city lakes that I frequent.  As I mentioned in my last post, a majority of my gills have come off of the "spider grub".  I hope that we can get more folks interested in this group and show them the versatility of artificials.  Hopefully, it will start cooling off here in Ga. and the crappie will start moving around.  About 30 miles north of my hometown of Columbus, is a resort called Callaway Gardens.  It has a great fishing lake where an angler can catch 7 bream, 7 bass and all of the crappie they can haul out.  A person can use worms or crickets for the bream, but artificials only for crappie.  No minnows!  The lake is stocked with bass and bream but no-one knows where the crappie came from.  Some think that shore birds may have walked through a crappie bed and eggs leached to their legs.   Others feel that crappie may have just been dumped in the lake and took hold.  There is no limit on the crappie.  Can't wait to plunk down $30.00 for a half day's fishing and see what some of my handpoured jigs can do.  The $30.00 covers jon boat and trolling motor for at least 5 hours of fishing.  Not a bad deal.  Anyway, let's do what we can to keep this group up and running.  Tight lines and full limits.  Nick Holt.

When fish are aggressively feeding ,artificials are more productive I feel but sometimes it takes live bait to get the fish active .I gotta experiment with chum and artificials to see if the results are especially productive.Or would that be cheating? LOL!
