AROUND 2 ROTTEN STUMPS. GUYS START LOOKING AND SAVING MONEY. I NOT ONLY FOUND BIG REDWORMS, I FOUND GREEN WORMS AND GRUBS. THE SOIL IS A LITTLE SANDY. I HAD CLEANED MY MOWER AND PUT GRASS CLIPPINGS ON TOP OF ONE, GUESS THAT HELD MOISTURE. SO START LOOKIN. HAS ANYONE FISHED ON PATOKA LAKE THIS SPRING? I NEED A LEAD----------- THANKS

THANKS GUYS FOR ALL YOUR RESPONSES TO RAISING WORMS. BUT, GRUNTING. HAVE YOU EVER GRUNTED FOR GILLS AND EARS? I DO THEIR SO BIG I GRUNT WHEN I BRING THEM ABOARD. WELL, THE BAIT HOUSES CAN SHOVE THEIR WORMS WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE. THE MORE BAIT WE CAN GET ON OUR OWN THE BETTER THE FISHIN. HAY WHAT DO YOU THINK OF CALTAPA WORMS? YEA OR NAY
I have a small fridge from when my daughter was away at school I have it stuffed full of crawlers and garden worms. Every evening after a rain I spend an hour picking worms. About two more pickings i should have enough for the year. I find every fly, jig, and lure that i tip with a small piece of worm works better. I confess I am to cheap to spend 2.95$ for a dozen crawlers when I can pick them up for free.
In Vermont we cannot trap or transport minnows with out a bait dealers tag. This law in its self could make a huge discussion. I hate it and think it quit senceless.
Worms are great! And some kids never grow up! Here's a punch list of what earthworms and nightcrawlers have done for me over the years...
-several dozen largemouths over 5 lb, including a chubby 6 1/2 lber two weeks ago.
-several big smallmouths, including a 4-14 on a garden worm & ultralight.
-hundreds of gills over 10 in.
-crappies up to 14 in.
-a PR channel cat at 31 inches.
-walleyes to 24 in.
-numerous carp over 30 in.
-redears to a PR of 1 1/2 lb.
-we got hybrid sunfish, bg/gs approaching 2 lbs, our largest sunfish ever.
-lots of trout to 20 in.
-lots of jumbo yellow perch, including a freakish 15 3/4 incher.
-a beautiful stream brown trout at 18 in.

Is there any fish out there that won't hit a properly fished worm or nightcrawler? Free for the digging, this has to be one of the all time great natural baits for so many fish.

Let's hear it for them worms!
Uh Oh, I see a worm web-site ,or at least a sub-forum in the near future...LOL ! steve b
I have old book Lunker love nightcrawlers from Fishing Facts magazine. Wonderful book. Lot of nice bass and 'gills for me in the 1970's and 1980's! Large live nightcrawler tip on no. 6 hook, long light rod, and 4 lbs line and throw out then let nightcrawler do natural down to deep water to catch big old bass, walleye and monster bluegills!
I once read somewhere, don't know if it's true, that if you took any living thing on Earth, and grouped them up, eg: all humans or all elephants or all mosquitos etc. Then weigh the groups that earthworms would outweigh every other group. No wonder Bluegills are such prolific breeders. Somethings got to keep the worms from taking over. They were meant to be fed to bluegills. Present them on a hook so you can be sure you delivered the meal. And is that incessant cricket chirping getting worse or am I imagining it. Could bluegills possibly help us out with that threat too? Let's go Green and use our renewable resources more, The Gills that get our bait or get released will thank us. They're tired of those tricky artificials thingys. They want real food.
