Do you love big bluegill?
I did something today that I haven't done in years.....I took my small boat out. I fished my Brother-in-laws lake, native BG, un-managed and unfed. After gathering up the essentials: seat, battery, trolling motor, anchor, rod, tackle box.... I loaded it all in the boat. Two minutes travel time behind the Kawasaki, and I'm at the water.
I adjust everything to suit me, and push off from the bank. 20 minutes later, I've caught my usual dozen and I'm loading the boat back on the trailer. Return to house. Wife doesn't even think I've left yet. Total elapsed time: 30 minutes. Fillet fish, and it's on to the next project. (Driveway maintenance)
This is why I prefer winter fishing. In the winter, there are far fewer demands on my time, and I can slow down and enjoy myself. I like the challenge of a cold water BG bite, and I appreciate spending time figuring the fish out. Because I HAVE the time to spend figuring it out.
The fish were nothing special, all males, 8-9". All staging in deeper water off spawning areas. Plenty of bigger fish already on nests. Taken on size 8 wooly worm tipped with beemoth, casting with spinning gear. No pics, as from now on It has to be something big, or at least unusual for me to post photos. No worries, just a personal challenge.
Hopefully, tomorrow will yield higher caliber fish. Lots of great fish posted here today, congratulations everybody, and well done!!!
