Hi Everyone,
Just wondering what everyones favorite lure to use to catch bluegills is. I would have to say my personal favorite is gitzit lil tough guys with a piece of worm or something on it and a float the bluegills and panfish hit pretty good on them.
Let me know what your favorite lure is
Thanks
scott
I have read that the kind of plastics with the heavy oder(which I have never used) actually degrade faster and are thus better for the fish and environment. Regular plastic such as used in plastic worms can apparently exist for years and years on the bottom of a lake. My sons and I actually found a bass skeleton attached to mono, hook and a plastic worm when Lake Jackson in Tallahassee last went almost completely dry as it does routinely. Lead that may work its way into the local drinking water supply just scares me.
What color beetle spin did you like, John? There was always a purple that worked good for 'gills, and I used to fish with a Priest who swore by the yellow with the two little black racing stripes down the middle. I saw him catch hundreds of nice gills on that color. It used to drive me crazy. :-)
I like the Mepps spinflies the best, one hook instead of treble hook so its easy to unhook em'
Color doesn't seem to matter in the spring at least with my experiences.
My favorite is whatever is working on the day. It's been my experience that there is nothing constant but ... change. I've fished certain lures on a given day and they have worked great... go back the next day... they won't go near it. Or sometimes you have to present the lure in a different way... slower... faster... on top... down below...
My favorites are the jigs that my boy and I tie... That's purely because there's a certain satisfaction when you catch a nice fish on something that you made yourself. It gives you that added feeling of a job well done.
As for excitement... you can't beat a Big Bull bluegill hitting a topwater... not for the faint of heart...
