Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Does anyone do any southeastern Warmouth fishing?

If so, where?

What is the best time of year to try for them?

What bait are you using?

Anyone catching them on the fly?

I used to land a number of them about four years ago.  I am in SE Florida near the Loxahatchee Preserve on 441.  I do not target them, but as I said I was landing a number of them.  I caught them on streamers, on a six weight rod up in areas with a lot of cover - just like bluegill.

Lately I have had a lot of success hooking up chilids - wow! once you've had a couple of these on, you're addicted.  They fight like mad pit bulls.  They are typically slight (very slightly) larger than bluegill; however, I caught one yesterday that had to have been 2 1/2 lbs.  I had taken in over ten in a row - all small.  I decided it was time to go and I cast into an area that was highly probable I would loose my leader: high say grass, paddies and a culvert.  The paddles and saw grass were in a precariious position, but I thought what the heck I am willing to loose my leader since its had been so good. After I cast (I had a popper dropper on - nymph on the bottom) i stripped into and under the paddies.  The line became tangled in the paddies.  Then bang!!!!! bank!!!!  boy what a fight

NOthing like a chilid!
