I used to carry a pair a heavy-duty, padded leather gloves when I fished down here.  Nowadays, I usually just step on the bill, being careful not to break it, then try to remove the hook.

As happened in this video, unless you're using a wire leader, you don't land many of them.

Thats about right. My problem is when they grab a spinner or something that is cut resistant.
