Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here's something only my fevered mind would dream up.
Every angler wants to catch the big name fish. Big bass, Massive salmon, trophy bluegill, arapaima in South America (my personal quest), and so on.

But what about those other fish, the "trashy" ones we don't admire nor talk much about? If you were to target them, which ones would you go after?

In other words, what would a "Non-game Fish Bucket List" look like?

If anyone can catch the elusive Amur, its you, Jim!

I caught a grass carp once...by accident while BG fishing. Got him on a 4.5' ultralight, on 4 lb test. It was quite the battle.

What a tank!

Wow Tony !What a fish! 4lb test too! Awesome!

Big old drum!
Hey Patrick, got any pics of some burbot?

I once caught a 6 foot black water snake on a Jitterbug (casting rod with 10lb test line).   That was quite a fight.  Those old-world pictures of sea-serpents on maps snaking in and out of the water is exactly what that snake did.   I wasn't sure I wanted to 'land' it.  Ended up knocking it out when I got it to shore.

So, while I will scratch "snake" off my bucket list, it wasn't on there to begin with.

Haha! I have a joke about fishing and a snake....remind me to tell you sometime.
No trash fish in my book! If I haven't caught a species in the past, it's a trophy to me! If it swims, I'm proud to try to land it!

Thats the right attitude Jason!

I'll second that !

Most of the fish I go after are considered "trash" fish by someone. Bluegills, Crappie, and Perch in fresh water and Atlantic Croaker, Norfolk Spot, and White Perch in salt water. Around the Chesapeake Bay people think of Spot as bait for Striped Bass. They (Spot) are tasty little suckers; I can see why Rockfish like them.
