Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

So here I sit covered in smells covered in scales! My spring catchem to eat season is over. I spent the last 14 days rite up to the full moon fishing my butt off. Most of those days I spent by myself on the creek 6 to 14hours by myself mainly cause it was during the week and everybody was at work or in school. I did manage to take a few folks fishing. 1 of wich had never even caught a fish until our trip. I discovered some crazy things being on the creek for so many hours day to day to day how paterns changed and actually watching these fish move from deepwater to midlevel structer to flats. It was amazing. I managed to bag over 400 gills. I know some people are going WHAT!!!!!! I slotted my fish everything over the 9" mark or close went back in the water. All super healthy fish went back in the water and all the ladys went back in until I noticed that the eggs were gone. I found myself only pulling a handfull of gills from beds and then moving on in search for the next. I put up in my freezer 30 packs of fish bagged at 10 fish a bag. Each bag has a couple of fillets from the bigger gills and a few fillets from the occasional bass and catfish so its 1bag perfect for my lil fam or 2 bags for a small get together with all the fixins. Nothing goes to waste round here. Moral of the story. I can afford to bomb a few times now cause everybodys gonna eat. Flyrods are commin out along with the ultra lites. Im still takin crickets for the sound effects Bruce! I may need to use them as chum.

So I hearby commit from today until mid July to Artificial bait.....Other than my 2 crappie trips and trout lines. Im no artificial fisherman and by no means will it be by the books. Im goin to the pro this week with $50bucks for spoons beetlespins, rooster tails, and what ever tiny lures I can find to do some experimental river fishin with artificial.

Pray for my hooks,
Mayo

I like the artificials with road runner feathers when you can get them
Fish fry at Jeremy's house ! Lol ! Now I know who's living my life. Ya, go arty, give the poor fish a chance ! Jeremy ? You da man. steve b
I only do it out of love.
Good lord dude. That is a nice bunch of fish. Lures to get for sure: Blackmore Roadrunners in 1/32. Get a red head and white body and a Chart. for sure. Rebel Teeny Wee Craw. Heddon Teeny Torpedo. If you go to BPS hit the fly section for the Micro Jigs. They are little in size down around 1/100 oz. Trim them back to the hook and fish them under a small float. Work great on big gills for me.
I dont think BPS has the Mister Twister Teenies....but Dick's does. I stocked up on those. I toss these with 1/64 head, under a float, or carolina rig.

Just some of my Favorites.

Wow ! A table full of keepers, and another beside ya ! We don't want to know if you wore the same sox and indies for three days of fishing. Honest. steve b
