20170802- I took the morning and afternoon from fishing to head off to Northwood’s Wholesale to replace a long-caster set-up that got snatched up and taken over by family… take them fishing and introduce them to Long-Casting/Tiny-Jigs and they take over my equipment!... Sheesh!!
I decided to continue going along with the HellBent Panfish/Trout series of rods and purchased the 6-6’ rod, Shimano Sienna 1000RD/8# GLISS for long-casting/tiny jigs.... My wife Jeri loaded up on jig heads and curly tails.
I also found Berkley PowerBait waxies that I have been dying to try. I can now glue these to the jig heads. Cant wait to test them out and compare them to te GULP line of waxies.
As soon as I got home I spooled up the GLISS with a base of Mr. Crappie Mono and set off to the bridge to test out performance with the new system.
Immediately I noticed a small school of B.Gills working the rip rap. I cast the new set-up just ahead of the school felt the tick and a small 6”er completely engulfed the bait and took off with it. Hopefully the performance will be comparable to the GULP version.
i quickly followed with a small B.Crappie on the Mid-Minnow
Will keep everyone posted!
I am always interested in the long cast outfits you use and appreciate the photos and detailed descriptions. I hope you let us know how you like the 6ft.6jn. rod compared to the shorter rods you use. Thanks

Thank you and your welcome John... positive feedback is always nice to hear! I sure will keep everyone posted on anything positive towards successful fishing for the B.Gill.
For me there are positive & negative aspects with any length of rod used for long-casting/tiny jigs… since the particular line of rod (HellBent) is new to me at the moment I should be able to give a full review in a few weeks.
Immediate findings on short compared to longer is I am gaining some distance with the longer rods but IMO gaining the length is losing on sensitivity and control of the tiny jigs. I did find a special niche for the longer rod is long-casting/tiny jigs in deep water… Very, very effective in the deep water ive been tagging the certificate fish in just recently… especially with the hooksets.

with (2) Certificate trophy fish on the past 2 trips i am torn between two different lakes to test the new set-up. the two lakes are similar in characteristics and i am doing well on both of them presently...
the day is forecasted to be poor but i intend to fish at least the Minor Period on my best big fish spots. it'll be one of those days where the decision will be made at the end of the driveway on which lake to fish
good fishin everyone!
Flip a coin, Rock/Paper/Scissors, or toss a dart at a map :)
... ended up picking the lake closest to me ... got out on the lake and discovered they just got through with weed control... nearly skunked out
It's always interested to see the photos and description of your long cast outfits. I hope you will let us know how you like the 6ft.6in.rod compared to shorter rods. Thanks

20170806~ went trophy hunting again today on my hot new lake… I didn’t do as well… tagged a bunch of eater slot b.gills deep jigging the thermocline break. I was interrupted several times with pounding rain but the Frogg Toggs held tight and dry.
I eventually threw in the towel and headed back to the launch.
i kept the camera in dry storage most of the outing.
Water temps low 80’s…
