Do you love big bluegill?
The past few seasons it’s been season outdoing the last. Knowledge base on top of knowledge base. Building on some great info from this site and time on the water. I’m anticipating and looking forward to even better results with more citation fish. Anyway that’s the game plan.
Last year was the season of fishing TINY. Thin UL Lines loaded on tiny 50 series reels and light UL rods tossing tiny baits in front of fish targets…quantities of quality panfish and trophy SMB. Tossed the baits into thick cover with reckless abandon. Tiny presentations under slip bobbers thrown next to thick weed slop and weed pockets. Mid day fishing out of the kayak in less than two feet of water and tagging quality fish. Never really had another fishing boat come close to me fishing. it was like i had the lake to myself. looking forward to making some more good memories in the upcoming season.
Looking forward to any hints suggestions or comments from the BBG membership… sharing is the best way to learn and progress!
hope everyone a successful "2016 Open Water Season"

20160918—replaced the 4# Nanofil with 8# GLISS to my Micro-Lite 4-6’ Spinning rod. Casts relatively the same distance with double the power. Cant wait to try this out this afternoon.
20160918—Loaded up the kayak with (3) rod set-ups (1) Micro-Lite jigging, Ultra-Lite Jigging and a Ultra Lite Slip/Float/waxie & Nite crawler and set off to my favorite B.gill runs. Water temp was at 70° up a degree from the past two days.
On my way paddling to the spot I always drop or cast to a brush pile in 10 FOW… I was shortly rewarded with many B.Crappie with three in the 12” class casting and vertically jigging the Lil Minnow . I broke off from the action to continue to the shore-line run hopefully for some B.Gill action.
Spent about an hour slip/floating without a hit but one tagged Y.Perch on the Lil Minnow.
Started paddling back to the launch and tagged another nice 12” class B.Crappie on the Lil Minnow and a bonus SMB that took the kayak for a little ride.
Really liking the new GLISS on that Micro-Lite set-up. All that power and sensitivity on a tiny rig.
Nice 12” class B.Crappie
Bonus SMB on the 1/64 oz Lil Minnow

20160919—i just had time for a short kayak trip this afternoon. … Taking my usual arsenal of fishing gear… featuring the little Micro-Lite jigging rod loaded with the tiny swim jig 1/64 oz Lil Minnow and slip/float/fly/waxie. Just incredible success with these tiny swim jigs, thin super lines and micro-lite rods.
With the bright blue skie and windy conditions I tried positioning myself over vertical structure with the Lil Minnow and pulled up a couple abv avg size fish along with some eater slot fish. a nine inch class r.bass will provide a lot of tug… reminds me of a grouper digging down deep to get back in his dark tangled structure. A nice battle on the UL or Micro-Lite gear.
Slip/float gear struck out today.
.some of today’s virtual creel… all CPR’ed.
