Very informative Joe

Glad you liked the video.

Nice video.  I like using the bits of tube tails as bait.

I have a small creek that I micro fish with my 2wt flyrod, usually after a period of heavy rain as it clears up fast while everything else is torrents of mud.  I mostly use small size 18 nymphs.  You can catch some pretty little minnows!

Nice catch. When I started doing this about two years ago, I was blown away by how small a catch you can make on hook and line. My goal is a one inch bluegill. Last year I was able to get down to 1.25 inches on 1# test and japanese tanago hooks. Funny, when I microfish, I'm usually smiling the whole time and on the plus side I never get skunked

hey im new to tha site but been making my own tanago hooks from bread tie twist by burning of tha plastic n tha springs in click type fountain pens jewlers/dyke/ type hobby tools the metal in tha pens is very strong n thin

guitar strings are made of some pretty tough wire and quite thin.if you or anyone you know plays .i have some that is very thin but is extremely strong.

Jim

I usually don't have a problem with line. I usually use Asso 1# test . I will give a guitar string a try this spring. Might be fun to try and cast

some times the best micro equipment is the stuff you make yourself. Post an example when you get a chance.

that little reel is only 10 bucks looks like maybe you could adapt to your small pole rods..

i think i may purchase the mini fly rod ... looks fun

I've looked at the Pen Micro fly set up. Right now I have  a HT micro fly reel paired with a 54 inch HT Micro Master rod. I'll be using it this spring. Check out the link below. They have the rod, reel and micro fly line available as a single purchase

I have used tiny bream as catfish bait. It is legal in NC as long as they are legally taken by hook and line. I use a tiny midge on the fly rod. I am not sure what my smallest fish caught is, but I have released several that were too small or weren't bream. I caught one bass in the 2" range that was remarkably well formed; it looked like a 2# or so bass that had been shrunken - eyes, mouth, fins, markings and body shape all in proportion. Lots of little bass I catch look out of proportion or don't have clear markings. Basically anything I am not sure is a bream and isn't in the 3" range (good size for catfish bait) gets released.

When netting shrimp I have gotten a few flounder that are in the 2" range also. Also returned to the water immediately, of course.

Andy

I know a few fly guys that only micro nymph. Short leader and 8x tippet. They catch both large and small. Any fly under #20 is good for micro fishing. My goal is a one inch fish on hook and line. Since I mostly fish fixed line, most of my fly use is limited to dapping. I also do Tenkara but limit that to #12 dry flies, 2 / 3 times a year.
