recently i was taking some kids fishing and saw a man cast netting i my favorite spot to take the kids. now in nebraska cast netting is illegal except for a few spots so i called the sheriff and waited then i called back 45 min. later. they said they were busy . i drove home and returned with my camera and took pic of the person in the act agian calling the police after calling the game warden who was 70 miles away he said to give them to the sheriff. thing is the sheriff never showed i left my 20 year old son fishing and we stayed 2 hours the buffalo co.. sheriff in nebraska never showed. i hope you have better luck with enforcement of game laws in your area. so what is a person suppost to do ? any body have any advice?
So when you say this is illegal, do you mean to use the net at all, or to keep fish you catch with it? I am just curious if you can use the net to catch bait or not?
In Oklahoma it is illegal to keep game fish caught with a throw net, but we can use them to catch shad etc.
Law enforcement personal cant be everywhere when you need them, they need help from law abiding citizens, without the risk of personal risk or injury you should have gathered evidence as photos of people in the act and licence plate number and given it to the proper authorites , game and fish or county sherriff, and when you call them to tell them about the offense , also tell them you think they are smoking crack. You never know ,you might get a reward.
I always hate it when somebody gets to my favorite spot before I do. I don't really care what they are fishing for or with. I just know they are in MY SPOT! Well, I can't call the law about that, so I do the only sensible thing. I fish there too! It's not very good manners, but it ain't illegal, and the law is left to higher prorities. After we get our lines tangled a few times. they move on. I may have ruined their day, but they didn't ruin mine.
Steve you are certainly right I have seen people get itckets or arrested for it one miniute the are happy as can be the next they have a police on their boat looking through their livewell but they even have people undercover and I'm glad to keeps us in line and we need people like that in other states as well
