Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Anyone have recommendations on glass spinning rods for chasing gills around some ponds and lakes. I know it is still cold out but warm weather should be here in 6 months or so

hey Craig ...only glass rod i own is a Eagle Claw Featherlight Spinning Rod in the 5-6 model.... great little rod for slip bobbering the banks.

Craig;; tooty; has proably forgotten more about glass rods; than people know !!  and;; tooty;; makes glass rods !!

Hey Craig glad to see ya back on again !!!!!! I already know ya like glass cause of the Heddon's ya got from me already . The problem with pond fishing is usually brush all around ya and that's what led me to making these short solid glass rods I make. Ya can cast em underhand , sidehanded , or anyway ya can get the thing out to where the fish are.......

More info on those Tooty?

i used two conolon rods, made in the usa by garcia for decades.  these rods were a blast to use and were almost bullet proof, except for the time a former gf closed the trunk lid of my camaro on the tips, thus making them two inches shorter.  i entertain the thoughts of picking up a couple on ebay but i love the lightness and sensitivity of graphite too much.

for what its worth; this is the rod that tooty;; made; and gave to me last year;; a heck of a good rod;; thanks tooty !!

I even let tooty fish  with his own rod he made-- ONE TIME;; LOL

Carl, Any info length action you can provide on this?

Craig; I just measured that rod;; its 5 feet; 9 inches; ( I had told tooty I prefer a long rod is why its this long );; action is; light !! will cast a 1/16 or better lure with ease; provided it has a good reel ! the reel on it is a president; by pfluger;; great little reel .  the rod action is great when playing fish of all kinds; sizes .. (  I like to play the fish in;; dont muscle them! )  the craftsmanship; is right up there with the best rod builders I know of.   My guess is; if you want a good; glass rod;  old tooty would build you one to !  big difference between a glass rod and  carbon type;; glass rods wont break; as easy if ever !!!

For tubular rods you might consider Kencor or Sabre - extremely popular on the west coast. However, neither are manufactured now but you can still run across the blanks or older rods for sale. They aren't cheap and in high demand. Recently sold 3 Kencor blanks for $380... Still have some Sabre blanks and Kencors if you are interested.

Craig..... I picked up a Eagle Claw fiberglass spinning rod at Cabelas yesterday.  It's  2 sections....9 feet long and listed as medium light action. It's fairly whippy at the tip, so it may work for lighter lures.  Will try it in a few days and let you know. It was $25.
