Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I'm looking to get into fly tying, and i was wondering if anyone had a specific kit that they would recommend to get started.

alot of places have a kit by wapsi for around $50 that has all the tools you need and also comes with some materials. its a nice place to start, but if you get into tying youll prolly want to replace the vice down the road and maybe the bobbin holder.

heres a link to one site.   http://www.barlowstackle.com/Wapsi-Fly-Tying-Starter-Kit-Full-Kit-P...

I would recommend you buy a $100 vise, a decent pair of siscers, and make a bodkin. Get some $1 fingernail polish and the materials to make one pattern you are interested in. Learn to tie that fly and expand from there if you like it. I started making small BG poppers and graduated into hair bugs for bass and BG.

Craft fur and craft foam is very versitile and cheap and easy to obtain. Find a good flytying forum and you will miles ahead of what was available in the 70's.
