Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Would you guys (considering we're all just a bunch of rednecks who like to catch bluegills) use the term 'Tied' or 'Dressed' as relates to your fly tying ? Is someone considered elitist by using the term 'Dressed" ???
This morning's exercise... Been a few years since I tied so for now I'm tying fishing flies. NOT dressing display flies. Would that make a difference in the verb used ? (Oh, and learning to take photos of them with my phone. This is a phone photo)

I'd always heard that to "dress a fly" is more British than American.  The only time you really see the word "dressed" when applied to hooks in this country is dressed treble hooks, usually on the back end of a crankbait.

Allen,

Exactly where I heard it. I replace almost all of my topwater (torpedo or poppers or) lures with the trebles I prefer. I 'tie' white hackles on em with red thread. A couple weeks ago an old guy remarked, "Did you replace the hooks yourself ?" I replied, "yes." Then he asked, 'did you dress em like that ?"

Started me thinking.

Great reply to my post my friend.

Today was all about re-learning how to marry feathers. All I had (that was worth a darn) was some goose and turkey. Turned out well for first day back to this.

thats a heck of a good looking tye hwy!! what are you going to call it??   looks like it has a bit of peacock herl in it to!!

Carl,

Definitely a 'Coachman' of sorts.

Splurged and ordered a few 'classic' hooks, 200 to be exact. Back to basics for a while.

Today's tying...

A very classic color for Bluegills.

Hook: Mustad 3399 #6

Tail: Mix of Pheasant tippets and Yellow hackle

Body: Gold tinsel, Yellow Hackle (palmered), fine gold wire

Legs: Mallard flank feather

Wing: Yellow dyed duck primary

"Thaus air nice sune. But cun ya tiey a 'parmachene belle' lad?

I was proudly showing a Scotsman that I met on the river my well executed dries and nymphs. I even knew the Latin names of most of the bugs they represented. He showed me one. I almost laughed. Looked like something that belonged in a circus and not on the end of my fly line. We fished for a couple hours, leap frogging down the river and he caught fish after fish after fish. He finally gave me a wave and departed through the trees. He shouted as he left.

"Ef ya cun tiey tha "parmachene belle"... ya cun tiey anithung"
I never forgot it.

A 'Pitcher' style

A 'Highlander" style

MAN I AM GLAD you are on here RMC !!!! BEST LOOKING FLIES I've seen in a long time ! What kind of vice ya got ? Superb work any way it's sliced buddy.......All the ones ya made with yellow should be absolute death for gills and crappie in the spring......
