Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Would you guys (considering we're all just a bunch of rednecks who like to catch bluegills) use the term 'Tied' or 'Dressed' as relates to your fly tying ? Is someone considered elitist by using the term 'Dressed" ???
This morning's exercise... Been a few years since I tied so for now I'm tying fishing flies. NOT dressing display flies. Would that make a difference in the verb used ? (Oh, and learning to take photos of them with my phone. This is a phone photo)

I don't know the pattern name. (I made it up long ago. But I'm sure there's a similar pattern and name somewhere in history). But this fly pattern has caught many fish. (well actually I caught them the fly was just instrumental) WAY over dressed but I enjoy tying so...

Hook: 3906 B #12

Thread: Black 6/0

Tag: Oval gold tinsel

Tail: Wood Duck

Aft: Black herl

Body: Yellow floss, Ribbed with oval gold tinsel, Black herl and fine gold wire

Wing: White Duck

Hackle: Barred pheasant

Fore: Black herl

While enjoying this site over the last few weeks, I noticed the Hopper/Dropper method mentioned a lot. I generally fish this wet fly about 18 inches below a 'thunder creek style' yellow and brown and red hopper pattern. Most of the takes are on the submerged fly and the hopper is a GREAT strike indicator.

I have noticed some folks mention tangles with a hopper/dropper set up. I fish this within 20 feet and use a heavier than normal monofilament for the dropper. Also, usually 'dead drift' allowing the natural currents of the lake or stream to impart the action.

i call it tying flies!  dressing??  doesnt that come with cranberry sauce??

Ahahahahaha !!!

I like to say I tied a fly but if someone else calls it dressing I know what they mean.

Just plain outstanding RMC..... I used to have tons of books with photos' like this that in my estimation , professional grade.

Now member on here Mark Sleeper has most of the books and your ties are  inspirational to us all ...... Thanks

 TOOTY

As you all have inspired me... Thanks David

As I posted elsewhere... I just couldn't wait to use some feathers from a big ole Canvasback I've had stowed in the freezer. I really enjoy tying wings with wild duck wing feathers. They stay married so much better than the commercially available ones. The hackle beard (tied short for my style) is a neck feather a black bronze.

I would call that fly dressed. Nice job. Most of mine are offered to the fish for inspection, they seem to like em

. Which cell phone are you using that makes that nice of a close-up?

Steve, Thanks for adding to the poll. I feel the term 'dressed' is just an old description often used regarding salmon flies. I was doing some internet searches the other day and noticed the verb used a lot still. I don't know another fly tier in this area nor is there a fly fishing shop. So I thought I would ask the question here.

IPhone 5s with an accessory Ollo lens attachment. These photos are far from where I want them to be but you're right... The camera set up is on the right track. I use my phone almost exclusively for personal photos these days, too simple. I enjoy photography as well.

Thanks for the encouragement.

   Impressive ties (dresses ?) R.M.

I don't tie, but fishing a jig "dressed" means I've added protein to the hook, while "naked" means no meat.
