I have owned 2 fly rods in my lifetime,,,one I bought when I was 16, and one about ten years after that.
I had no idea what the sizes meant and just bought what Kmart or Walmart had.
Now that I know a bit more, I was looking at my two fly rods...the one I bought first is for 9-10 and the other one is same...both are on the heavy side.
I want to buy a 3-4 for bass and bluegill,,but I am not crazy about a 4 piece rod...
Looking to spend about $100.
What yall suggest? Remember, I am in new orleans and we don't have choices like many places do.
Bass pro and cabelas are an hour a way but I pastor a church out that way so I am there each weekend.
What yall think?
Good name brand...
Someone posted on another forum they bought an okuma rod and it was like casting with a 2x4.
Any suggestions? I am pretty good with casting and don't want a beginners rod.
I like a 3-wt for 'gills, but, if there's a wind or a chance of getting into some larger bass, I pull out the 5-wt. I'll also use the 5 for totally calm days, when I want to stay back, away from the fish.
I've been using their gear for a few years now, and love 'em all: my 3-, 5-, and 7-wt rods/reels are all from Albright.
If you have a fly fishing club anywhere near you, JOIN! You won't believe how much you can learn. Plus they'll probably be able to set you up with casting lessons (VERY helpful), and, maybe, even tying lessons.
Ok I went after the LSU game. Dude that works at
Bass Pro is good guy. Knows more than I do, of course.
He knows where I fish and we talked...he thinks, as I did, that the TFO 4wt rod, 8 ft long...would be the one. They didn't have it..so tomorrow on way back to new orleans I will go to Cabelas. They should have.
I gotta lot of work monday...but my cousin is going to the Trestles over Lake Pontchatrain, try catch some reds and specks.

Reddington makes a complete outfit, rod, reel, lined and backed for 100.00. It's a 71/2 ft4 wt. they have them in different weights i think. I out fish my buddy who uses an orvis. My sage is better, but if i see a twitch, its hooked.
