Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hey I was wondering How many people besides Me. On this site. That did not know. That sometimes in the spawning period that male blue gills will change colors to look like females. So other males won;t be agressive toward them. So that theycan pass them too enter the beds too fertilize the eggs I have never heard this before but it's true.Don

Yep the reason this article got My attention. Earlier this spring.I was fishing over a bed and thought they were females. Beccause they were colored up like females. but Some of them were males'
I know some fish can change color. That is why it is nice to get a picture of it right away if you are taking it to the taxidermist. I also know that fish change color when spawning is occuring, they get "brighter or darker" but, a male completely changing his color scheme to look like a female is a stretch, I believe. I could be wrong though.
I came across this article. When I punch in bluegill on My web page1
Anything is possible I guess....Never really got into the detailed biological habits and lifestyles of a bluegill.....always something interesting to learn!...I "alter" their lifestyle for a few minutes with my rod and reel!...lol!
Now that's hilarious...lol
I believe these sneaky cross dressing males are called cuckolds. I remember hearing about this phenomenon from Bruce a couple years back.
What ever they are. They fooled Me this past spring,
