I use the Mister Twister Exude Helgramites on a floating jig head split shotted for Yellow Perch. They work good . I imagine they would work on Smallies too.  http://bigbluegill.com/photo/perch-pickerel-and-bass-8?context=albu...

I use the virginia guide hellgrammites when i'm wading the river and the redthroats absolutely love 'em roanoke bass too
also catch bluegill and flier in the pond with 'em

I've seen them in stores (black in color) never used them, but they should work well on smallmouth, rockbass, and various sunfish, you may have seen the adults flying at night (late june-early aug), they are Dobsonflys and are quite large, trout fisherman have been using them forever. I've used a variation of them however, purchased them from a flyshop in Edenburg Va. (murrys flyshop) on Rte.11. They have a website. Had good results on smallies with them (lure must be on bottom for best results)

I fish 'em on a 1/64 jighead usually on or near the bottom and 'em sorta like a texas rigged worm lifting the rod and letting fall back down got good results one of my favorites
