HATS OFF TO BILL MODICA...SPOON GURU!

Hey y'all, I don't know how many have seen it yet, but the latest In Fisherman magazine ( May 2011) has an outstanding feature article by our own Bill Modica on the pleasures and pursuits of using spoons for big gills! This is exciting stuff, as bill has long been advocating the use of these techniques on this site. Detailed rigs and tactics are again focused, as are many of his tutorial videos found on this site.

Like many of you, I was somewhat skeptical when I first read and heard about Bill's spoonin' gig. But after several solid efforts, it payed of with numbers and big fish to boot! I have caught several bluegills and hybrids over 11 inches using his techniques and would encourage all to read this excellent piece.

A big congrats, Bill! Great work!

I have tried and tried to get a copy of Bill's article but to no avail.  Would anyone be willing to mail or email me a copy?  I will be willing to cover any necessary costs.

Thanks,

Adam

Great article. I picked up this copy of In-Fish a couple of weeks ago. Years ago I used to fish deeper water off of sunken humps for northern pike with Dardevles in the middle of summer, and caught my fair share of sunfish/blugills on those bigger spoons. If the bigger spoons get 'em, then the smaller offerings are a cinch. The article just confirms what I had experienced already. I have plenty of ice fishing spoons to try out this summer for deep water 'gills.

I was fortunate and thrilled to find a back issue with Bills Spooning Bluegill article in my local tackle shop yesterday.

Extremely well done article written in a friendly unpretentious manner filled with 'MOD' ifying tips for the spoon tecnique. Bill encourages folks to use their own choice of spoons as well as his three favorites: Swedish Pimple,Kastmaster ,and Rattlin Flash Spoon. I 've used all three with success since  finding out about the tactic here at BBG.com !  In shallow water when the fish are looking for a  very slow fall I 've used the Nungesser and Hildebrandt ,Dardevle skeeter  flutter spoons and caught fish . The spoon tactics work on Perch ,Crappie ,Bass and Trout also.Another flutter spoon that works is the Acme Flashking wobbler .

Bill's hook modifications get  the best results for numbers and of course size.

I made copies of the chart 'Typical Summer Panfish Patterns' from the article and will use it for refferance this year.
