Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Could those of you lucky enough to catch fish, photograph them, and put online here, please identify what they are for those of us still ignorant? I'm still trying to guess the different types of BG, and am usually wrong the few times they are identified.

Thank you,
Sharon

Here is a picture of a longear. Not very big, which is typical. They are recognized by the enlarged earflap that usually is outlined in white and vibrant coloration. I've found they prefer moving water such as streams and small rivers.

Reading a passage from Byron Dalrymple'S 1976 book entitled,"How to Rig and Fish Natural Baits",he refers to a "Yellow Breasted Sunfish".After some research I found that YBS is another name for RBS,a Red Breasted Sunfish. That most aggressive tyke of Sunfishes will ,according to Dalrymple,be more apt to take a minnow than Bluegills or Redeared  Sunfish .

Well, at the moment I can't find any RE's without RE, but I did wonder what kind of BG Nate Herman added today. If I find any I need identified, how do I send them to you?

Can you show me an example, Sharon? All the RES that I catch have red eartabs. Some are much smaller than others however. On females it's just a little orange slit on some of them. The male eartab coloration is redder and more robust.

Ok, I could have identified that one, but some of the ones called RE, don't have RE's!
