Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Yes i have said it Bow to Your Gills. What is this all about? The gills of winter can be finicky and all be it jsut hard for many to catch. With many new ice rods on the market the lite bite is now easier detected. There are now new spring bobbers that are ultra sensitive, there are ones that are fixed to your rod and even ones that are adjustable that help you fine tune your presentation. These may help detect the bites, but it is at a loss to many to seal the deal with a successful hookup. Now I may be taking this off on a tangent but a bite does not always warrent immediate action. Sometimes a delay is what it takes. Over the last few years i have ealy taken great use of my underwater camers while out on ice fishing adventurers. An item like this may be a luxury to many but to me it is a tool of the job. There are so many great things that come from watching underwater video. Yes seeing them is great adventure in itsself but it is in observing fish behavior is where the real education lies.

I agree. I should provide some video. In the coming season we have plans to do some recorded video work and I will be sure to add this to that to do list.

Nathan, do you have some recordings of bites you can point us to. I'm from the deep south and umbrella fish instead of ice fish. But I do pay attention to my porqupine quill tip. Sometimes, I see a slight tilt and set the hook. Sometimes, I hook one and sometimes I dodge a flying hook and sinker. I'd like to understand the difference. I agree that underwater cameras are a luxury. Show us some video explanation of how it helps us understand when to delay. This may be asking a lot, but you started it!!!
