Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

How on earth do you peoples catch those massive bluegill's? I've never got a bluegill that massive in my life, I haven't fished alot recently. However I'm a bass man but bluegill's are pretty fun to there are quite a bit in a pond that are walking distance from my house but its october now and I can't fish warmly now until.... what April? anyways im just wondering if theres anything other else than a worm that will work..... later everyone

Hey Brendon, some of our biggest bluegills are caught in Jan and Feb with small 1/80 oz jigs tipped with bait and suspended below a Thill Waggler bobber at local ponds. My son Matt and I have caught gills over 11 inches in mid-winter/openwater scenarios. I have done very good on warm spells in Nov and Dec.

Hey Brendon, I agree with John. Gills seem to bite year 'round as we can see from some of the great ice fishing pictures and videos that are posted here. Dress warmly. If it's as cold as you say, definetly wear a hat, and a scarf. In cold weather, a person can lose up to 70% of his body heat from the head and neck area. Stick with worms or maybe crickets if you haven't tried them. Keep plugging away and don't get discouraged. The big ones will come. Nick.
