Do you love big bluegill?
Well, I figured it was about time to say hello on here. I made my account a year or two back and never really used it, but I plan to be more active on the forum now as I see there is a lot of knowledge to gain off the forum. I will state right off the bat I will likely be one of the younger members here, but I also have a lot of fishing experience. I hope I can learn a lot from some of you guys! I will tell you guys a little bit about me, so you have a general idea of who I am.
I have been fishing almost as long as I can remember, some close friends of ours own a pit (quarry) 15 miles or so from where I live. As a kid I would spend hours out there with my dad and his friend, as well as their son, a year younger than me. The ponds were stocked by the current owners dad, and then stocked with crappie in the past few years. The growing conditions are ideal there, and big bluegill and nice bass are all over the 4 ponds around the quarry. I always just used a closed face good ol' standard rod and reel up until a couple years ago, I bought my first spinning rod. It was a 6' 6" ML action Bass Pro combo, I was instantly hooked on spinning rods. I used that thing every day up until the tip snapped off the rod, in the last couple months. I purchased a 5' 6" "Crappie Maxx" UL action rod and reel to replace it, and after my first time on the water with it decided I would be switching to all UL gear. The only exeption being my St. Croix bait caster. I just cannot part with it after all the years I've owned it. I plan to purchase a St. Croix Panfish spinning rod very soon. I also own what I believe is a 5 weight fly rod, I would like to use it next spring on the beds, and any advice would be greatly appreciated! I would also love to do some ice fishing this coming winter. I also am not a kid who spends his time at parties. I have zero interest in getting in trouble for illegal things, thats not my idea of fun. My idea of fun is a john boat, oars, and an UL rod with a rooster tail. I will probably be asking some questions around here, and trying to get more ideas for things to try. That's my story of how I got hooked on gill fishing, and a little bit about me.
I hope to get to know some of y'all and learn from you. Also, great job to the moderators, you guys do a great job with the site. Thanks for reading
Andrew
