Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Been digging around the internet, looking for the common insect nymph forms in my region. I found one source that is perfect, listing all the taxonomic names. Pictures abound and my file is full. I have the four main types to tie.

Mayflies

Caddis flies

Odonata - dragon and damsel flies

Diptera - aka, chironomids, blood worms, etc.

So now I'm a ding-danged entomologist! All hail the internet.

PS I dont know what a "wazoo" is, but stuff is always up there. Why not bugs?

Dave, now that you are an entomologist, you need to tie up a hymanoptera bombedie, and a coleoptera scaribiadee

david get a small net and drag the bottom and the weeds, put some of those little larvae in a jar.many are too tiny to imitate ,unless you wanna fish sz 20s, or smaller.bluegill are caught on all kinds of things.

No float tube, just from the bank. That's why I use  Carbon  Graphite poles. I can reach about 18- 25 feet depending on the method.

The Sawyer is usually tied with pink gray and white wool. I like the size 12

Saw the Sawyer Killer...basic as they come. What yarn and general color are you using?

Thanks Joe, I'll check it out.
PS Do you use a float tube?

Cool

When you get a chance, take a look at the Sawyer Killer Bug. The thing was amazing this year and good for over 200 gills. Pattern is tied with a bit of copper wire and goes deep. So far I've only been able to get them in the UK and one site in the US when they have them for sale.

Angelo,
I've had good luck with the forum at onthevise.com, and flytyingforum.com

And Joe, great minds think alike. I've concluded as you have, that wets and nymphs pretty much cover the bases.
I've now started delving into the nymphs...

Patterns for trout mimic the exact same aquatic insects bluegill eat. Here I'm only referring to nymphal forms;
there are others to be sure.

Dry flies
Subsurface, "wet" patterns
Poppers

I've mostly keyed on still water nymphs here, usual for bluegill waters. Since bluegill feed mostly below the surface, on insect larvae, nymphs, etc., it's worth pursuimg the line of thought n
