Do you love big bluegill?
Seven years ago, in May 2009, I started managing a handful of ponds just north of my hometown on my own dime, with the goal of creating a trophy bluegill guide service. There are five ponds on the property that I worked with: 1.1 acre, 1 acre, .9 acre, .5 acre, and .25 acre, a total of 3.75 acres of water. When I started with that property, all but one of the ponds was choked with watermeal or duckweed or both; one pond had no fish left due to the duckweed, another had only stunted black…

So a couple of you may remember when I posted a photo a couple months ago of a 11.5" northern-strain bull, and happened to mention that I went fishing that day because I had seen a much larger fish that I thought might have been a bluegill (didn't get a great look, just the side of its body as it rolled to get away from the boat) a few days prior to that...
I was refilling feeders yesterday on the main property I guide on, which is where my best pond is, the one that produced…

I did a casting test on a 6'6" super-UL spinning rod I made specifically for casting very lightweight lures, the rod that I have built for UL enthusiasts who want more casting distance with such lures. I used 2-lb. test on a Shimano 2500, and did ten casts each with a 1/64 oz. jig, a 1/32 oz. jig, and a 1/16 oz. jig, no other weight besides the jig; I used a 1" curly-tail plastic body on the 1/64 oz. jig head, and a 1.5" Crappie Slider plastic body on the 1/32 and 1/16 oz. heads. I…

So I got a call today from one of my clients...He fished his pond for a couple hours yesterday morning, caught eight largemouth, one of which weighed 1.5 pounds and the rest of which went between three and four pounds each (he's already caught two bass this year just under six pounds each, and several five-pounders)...He also caught five bluegill, while fishing for bass with a plastic worm. The biggest one weighed between one and a half and one and three-quarters pounds on his digital…

Hey all, if anyone in TN, KY, AL, or GA ever needs any sort of help with your pond, whether it be weed control, fish stocking, an automatic feeder, an aeration system, or the best fish food in the industry, keep me in mind:
The site isn't finished yet, but I just wanted to let everyone know I'm out there. I don't have many fish photos yet but will be adding more. Two seven-pound and two…

So I was just out at a four-acre lake I manage, and the owner came up to me and said, "You're gonna kill me..." So I asked him why, and he asked me what the record bluegill was. I told him the state record is three pounds for Tennessee. He showed me his hand and explained that from the tip of his middle finger to his thumb outstretched is 9.5 inches - he said the bluegill he caught a week ago on a white bucktail spinner he was throwing for bass, was ten inches wide - said he couldn't…
