That's right a spoon also Allen . I am confident you will be on them in short order Allen ! Best of luck pal!
Yes, I've seen/read many accounts on In-Fisherman about "Rippin'" for Smallies with a spoon or a RattleTrap. I've also heard that Smallies will come up through 20 FOW to smash a topwater.
Yeah, I can see myself having fun with them. I just need to get after them.....
Smallies often hit close to bottom , have similar preferences to active temps as Yellow Perch which also feed close to bottom . Smallies will smash a topwater plug which I've never seen a Perch do though !
Thanks John yes I also had good luck on the Rapala chrome blue RNR rattle trap
With Marks help and your ability I'm betting you'll be catching Smallies soon .Doug Stange had a segment on the IN-FISHERMAN show the other day on Smallmouths .It was the Cold water period and he was ripping Rattletraps off the bottom in deep water and getting many . I did this once years ago one very cold early April day . I was in a boat .I got one on a Blue Backed /Silver sided Rattletrap in 20-25 feet of water off a Rocky Island .The other two were shallower and I got them on a Purple 1/8 oz Grub casting to a huge Rock on shore .Those three Smallies though not big took First Place in a Club tournament .The Largemouths just weren't moving that cold day . Try that Rattle Trap trick if you get the chance and Purple Mister Twister Grubs on an overcast day .Great fish Allen you're gonna like their spunk .
Hi Allen check out the two flies I posted on favorite rigs those will catch you anything ,esp smallmouths
It may be awhile before I can give any good advice here. I have never caught a Smallmouth. I'm in "learning mode" for those fish.
Welcome Allen Morgan ! Looking forward to your input here!
Michigan has amazing Smallmouth ! Thanks for the post Slip.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has confirmed a new state-record catch for smallmouth bass.
Greg Gasiciel of Rhodes was bait-casting Sunday with a green grub when he landed a 9.33-pound, 24.50-inch smallmouth bass from Hubbard Lake in Alcona County.
The previous state record for smallmouth bass was set in 1906 with a 9.25-pound, 27.25-inch fish taken from Long Lake in Cheboygan County.
This marks the sixth state-record fish caught in 2015. State records are recognized by weight only. To qualify for a state record, fish must be verified by a DNR fisheries biologist.
