Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Materials you’ll need:

  1. 5 gallon bucket
  2. Dawn liquid dish soap or equivalent
  3. Line conditioner… I used Turtle Wax F21
  4. Two dish rags one for cleaning your line and one for conditioner
  5. 2 gallons warm water
  6. 3 weighty dinner plates about 9.5 inches in diameter or less . This needs to fit with clearance in your bucket. the plates are needed to sink your floating line and helps to keep from tangling.

Let the cleaning begin:

  1. Fill 5 gallon bucket with two gallons of warm water.
  2. Add tablespoon full of detergent mix well
  3. Remove fly reel from rod and strip about one third into bucket
  4. Add plate to sink fly line
  5. Add another third amount of fly line to the bucket
  6. Add another plate on top to sink the loosely coiled line
  7. Repeat for the remainder
  8. Let soak for about an hour
  9. Remove one plate grab backing end of fly line and strip through wet wash cloth to rinse and wipe clean.
  10. Loosely coil on the floor.
  11. You should now have the leader end of the fly line on top of the coil below you.
  12. Grab the leader end and squeeze through condition soaked cloth coiling loosely on the floor.
  13. You should end up with the backing end of the fly line on top of a loose coil below you.
  14. Retie to the backing and reel onto fly reel.
  15. I left everything in the bucket and closed with a lid and stored for next time.
