Do you love big bluegill?
Does anyone leave a rig in the rod holder(s) while you are fishing.
This season, "dead stick" rigs have been really productive in the areas where I fish.
Typically, I fish a pair of jigs down 3-6' in a back rod holder to help locate schools of crappie, but the rig seems to catch just about everything.
On a recent evening trip I was in a pond that has a high ratio of largemouth bass, so I decided to leave a texas rigged senko hanging off the back while I pitched jigs to bluegill. Several times, i found myself being towed backwards by pesky bass.
If you typically fish a dead stick rig, what lure or bait do you use?

I haven't do what you said, instead i used to trolling jigs, I let the kayak moves with current or wind and wait for bites but by now in that way only catch bass. I will try your technique the next time
I was going to buy a couple of extra rod holders, and found a two-fer deal at BPS.
Maybe I'll set one up in the rear for this purpose.
Thanks!!
I've got a PVC rod holder set up for either drifting/trolling, as well as the rod holders that were molded into the yak. I haven't tried dead-sticking, but I will troll when I have to paddle a ways in open water.
Next time I do that, I might have to use my standard trolling baits (Rapala F5, Shap Rap, X-rap, etc.) with a 24" drop tied to the rear hook, and a jig on that drop.
