What Jim Gronaw is talking  possible safe ice in South East PA before Christmas.!!?

Last Year Jan 5th was my first trip out ice fishing .Would love for it to be earlier this year .The gear is ready!! When the deep open water of the Monksville reservoir ices over by the Dam then I know it's definately safe on  the small shallow lakes I like to start the season at.

Jig fished last night (spikes and mealies) 2:30-6:00pm last night. Small YPerch and Gills out of three holes 4 White Perch from 4:30- 6:00 also .Thick fish 9-10" Fought good ,much better than the Gills and Yellows that were smaller.

 Skunked at Waywayanda today targeting Trout /Bass Pickerel. Got bitoff on a tipup shiner ...pickerel I quess.

Tons of Yellow Perch, some Crappie ,White Perch and loads of Gills on small Cupsaw lake .Fish on bottom in 8-10' of water. Taking spikes on marmouskas,Mealworms,small fathead minnows on Nungesser and Kastmaster spoons.Way more fish jigging than the occasional tip up fish . Still not finding the bass .Only seen three in 7 times out.The white Perch are 10-11"and the Crappie are 11"-12".Gills averaging 7-8",YP going 9".

Last time out  2-18 ,the gills were cooperative but the Yellow Perch were few. Thinking they are moving up the lake .Next time out, if I do get another next time, I'm gonna have to try and relocate them Perch and Crappie I've lost site of.
