Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Ok, here's how I tied the Electric Chickens for Jeffery Abney.  I'm using 1/32 tube jig heads for this SBS.  I have a BUNCH of these things, so I use them when I don't want to use the jig heads that I don't have a large quantity of.

Start the thread on the hook, and wind to the bend.  Tie in some marabou, and tie to the hookshank all the way to the head.  Advance the thread back to the bend.  Prep a couple duck flank feathers.  Here, I'm using Eclipse-phase Mallard flank feathers.  Nicely mottled.  However, I prefer to use Teal flank feathers, as the barring is more pronounced.

Step #4:

Tie the duck feathers at the rear, where you tied in the marabou.  Tie one feather on the side facing your, and the other feather on the opposite side.  Carefully wrap the thread to the head, capturing the feather shafts all the way.

Thanks Mark

Step #5

Tie in a piece of Krystal Flash at the head, in the middle of the piece.  I take one long piece of KF out of the hank, and cut it into quarters.  Use one of the quarter pieces for each jig.

Step #6

Wind the thread back to the bend, lashing down the Krystal Flash all the way.

Step #7

Tie in the chenille and wrap that end all the way to the head.

Step #8

Wrap the chenille around the shank until you reach the head.  Tie off, give it a 3-turn whip-finish, and secure it all with a little Sally Hansen's.

If you have the materials, you can also flip the colors.  Here's what I'm calling a "Negative Chicken"
