Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

We all know how well a hopper dropper can work at time when the topwater bite stalls.  Here is a technique I use when the topwater bite slows down that often will get the bite back going.  I call it a popper dropper. You install a rubber slip float stopper on your flyline leader.  Thread the leader through the popper head which is tied on a Q-tip tube.  Tie leader to the dropper fly which is a bass fry pattern.  Adjust the float stopper for ever how far you want the dropper fly to fall.  I usually only let it fall about two inches.  This gives the impression of a fish attacking an injured fish on the surface and often triggers a bigger fish to get the easy meal.  Give it a try and see if it works for you on those days when they just seem to stop on the topwater bite.

That's brilliant! I gotta try it!

What's the popper head body made from? Did you color it yourself with markers, or did it come that way?

JBplusThuy, the popper head Is made from foam plugs I cut from a block.  I take a heated needle and push it through the center, cut a plastic Q-tip shaft and glue it into the hole.  Use waterproof makers to paint as desired.  Glue on some 2mm eyes once dry, seal it with Fabric Fusion glue for durability and trim off excess Q-tip.
