Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Just a couple pix from last week and the bite has been very good...15 fish over 3 pounds and several near five...all public water fish, too.Small live worms or bluegills below bobberes, one biggie on imitation crab meat...sheeeesh!

And one more...

All the bass seem to be pretty healthy...wonder what they will look like during next years spawn?

Thanks, Allen...we are really blessed to have 'discovered' this small but amazingly well balanced pond a good 5 minutes from the house. All catch and release regulation, hosting multiple species with bass, cats, red ears and crappies as the front runners. Tons of bluegills of varying sizes look like the main dish for the predators. A real gem!

The bite continues as we got some decent fish to the 4 pound mark lately...some were on imitation crab meat, suspended below a bobber intended for cat fish...go figure! A few on small live bluegills as well.

The one below is almost five...

Those are some really nice fish!

This maybe bad forum etiquette, if so please educate me. Where is this pond located? I live close to Hagerstown, MD and would love to catch (and release) fish like these. I usually fish at Greenbrier State Park and Blairs Valley Lake. Thank you in advance.

Brent

Hey Brent...thanks for the compliment!

Since this is a very small public venue that could possibly be abused to night time fishing and removal of fish, I hesitate to name this, and other small public lakes, that have outstanding fishing because, we are on the world wide web here, and in time, people would make their way to such fragile places and some serious damage could be done. I have seen it happen many, many times during my 55 years of fishing.

I would, however, be happy to take you there one day next spring, as long as you would agree to signing a pact, in blood, about it's secret location and allow me to blindfold you for the final 10 miles of the trip. Ha Ha...just kidding!

Seriously...I'd be happy to take you there, and to other places, for a day of pond-hopping next spring. Shoot me a PM on this site and we'll talk.

Jim

Way to go them Jim !!

We just had a crusher of a cold front run through these past three days...don't know what December will bring for fishing. These were caught up to Nov 22...likely our last bass catches of the year. I managed 104 fish from 18 to 21 inches...probably my best 'quality' year ever. Here are a few pics leading up to last week...

It's been a great year, with 551 bass caught. Can't complain about 2013!!
