Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Well, it wasn't fast fishing, but after work I slipped over to my favorite hybrid sunfish pond and met the owner, a long time friend, and gave him and his wife a bag of bluegill fillets and some fotos of fish we have caught in his ponds.

Then I slipped down to the pond and on my second cast with a Carolina-rigged earthworm I caught 'Slashback', an amazing 11 1/2 in hybrid that has the remnants of a injury between its spiny and soft dorsal fins. My wife Linda had caught this fish about 3 weeks ago so we immediately were tied for the year on biggest sunnys.

Caught numerous small bass on the Swede # 3 but no hybrids. Then picked up 2 more hybrids on worms...one a beautiful heavy fish that also measured 11 1/2 inches and tied my new PR. Previous best was an 11.25 incher.

Did manage a 9 inch hybrid that, despite being a very fine fish by my own standards, looked strangely small compared to the big guys.

I am getting dangerously close to that 12 inch mark. Maybe next time....!
