Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have been experimenting with what I call 'hybrid' jigs for panfish, that is...jigs that are made or fashioned with more than one basic component to create a new, and hopefully, fish catching lure. Examples would be a hairjig with both hair/rubber legs. Or a ledhead jig tied with hackle, like a dry fly. Again yet would be the use of plastics and rubber legs, or plastics and hair. The possibilities are endless.

I invite all the jig tyers out there to post your ideas, thoughts, photos and favorites in this discussion. I know LedHed has an innovative flair, and I am excited to see what shows up! Here is my latest 'hackle jig' that has a plastic tail Super glued to the hackles near the head. The idea is to get a super slow fall on this 1/32 oz jig with movement on both the hackles and the filament tail.

these are both size 12 flies.1 on a jig hook with a tungsten bead on a straight pin tied forward of the hook eye.the other is a size 12 bead on a standard fly hook.both same materials same size but they will act very differently in the water

Very nice, Jim!

most of this small stuff is interchangeable.you could easily fish most small plastics on a fly rod as most flies can be tied on a jig.i use those stringey flower pod bud things that fall off of choke cherry trees in the spring.i saw giant grass carp eating off the surface.they are not a dumb fish.i strung some of those pods on a fly hook that i quickley removed all feathers from and got that pod in front of those sipping carp.landed or beached 2 over 10 and fought one that was close to 40 for an hour at least.all on a 4wt flyrod and 6lb tippet.some of the most fun i ever had.

Jim, They look nice now if you only knew someone on the site that uses PINK they could test them for you...........

Wow...huge grass carp on the fly...very spooky and powerful fish!

Rick...who uses pink? HA ha!
