Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I was just wondering how many of you fish from an anchored position? I started our fishing anchored, it's how I was taught by my stepdad. Of course his boat had no trolling motor or electronics at that time, just a 9.9 pull start 2 stroke and 2 anchors made from window sash weights :).

My style of fishing is to find structure and fish on my sonar, setup and anchor and fish the spot. If I can't get something to bite in 15 minutes or so it's off to the next spot.

I have had boats with bow mounted trolling motors and electric anchor winches, but our current setup uses a transom mount trolling motor and manual anchor mates.

I'm sure this style is concidered old school, but I find it much easier for me to stay on a spot anchored rather than trying to hold position with my trolling motor.

Yes ,I sometimes anchor .It can be a great way to contend with a strong wind .I put the stern head on into the wind and anchor from there .I'll slip the rope holding the anchor to position further downwind after fishing a spot. I am with you on this Mike!

sure thing anchoring!!  I do it a lot if I find fish;; other wise I drift along the bank  using trolling motor to keep me  straight; and away from the bank

i want to say at least 70 percent of my fishing is anchoring next to a school of fish or a set target spot. first using my sounder with gps and waypoints to locate and then anchor ... no other way to precisely fish an area thoroughly. minn kota spot loc or the anchor feature would be just as good but at a significant cost.

i would love to have a motorized anchor up front.

That's the same thing I do. I never had a unit with GPS until about 3 years ago. Now I don't know what I'd do without it. It's nice to be able to mark spots and not be dependant on landmarks to find them again. My stern anchor winch is mounted on the stern seat and the bow winch is mounted on the center seat, so it's not to bad of reach when fishing alone.

I tried anchoring in our 3 acre pond a few times. Problem is some idiot (me) put so much structure in if the wind (we have a lot of it) drug the anchor a little from where I placed it in an open area, it got hung up on structure. Still one anchor on the bottom I need to put the scuba on to retrieve.

So in my situation I do fish from a moored position, but instead of an anchor have placed a half dozen permanent moorings in the pond. Still want to add about two more next summer. I can tie up to enough different places, no matter which way the wind is blowing I can get very close to where I want. Moorings are rope with a small 3" float then about a foot long loop beyond the float.

Pull up to the selected mooring,  snap on a Caribbeanner, let out how ever much rope needed to get where I want. That is the way I fish from an anchored position in my pond.
