Well not in so many words.I have thought about it but I get by doin what I do and just have never tried.I try to use the KISS method so tend not to use new methods till they are old.Looks good on paper.Let me know how it works.
A lot of guys in my area drop shot for gills in deep water 20-30+ with moderate success.......I've tried it, but all I get is tangles.
I have tried it a bit with limited success but thats only because I havn't put enough time into this technique to actually catch some fish, but I know it works.
Drop s*** rig......LOL!
Its popular for bass fishermen! Just smaller weight and smaller lure would do fine for bluegills! Tie hook on line about 12 to 18 inch above of weight like bell sinker! Small lure like 1" twister tail, fly, small worm or leech. Long rod as about 7 to 8 ft is the key that you able to feel the bottom! This rig would be good for deep water like edge of drop off, rock walls, edge of fallen trees or rock humps! Good for hot summer or cold water in late fall or early spring. You can learn more about it in google.com and just smaller than use for bass!

thats all i've been doing for panfish the last 2 months.

been catching gills , crappie, perch, and small mouth

easiest way for me to reach them.  they've been in 16-22fow and right near the bottom.

plus i don't have to watch a rod tip, you can just feel the slightest bites thru the rod.

i used a drop 6' 8'' dropshot rod & a Lite 7' rod.  floro line. 4lb.

i do run two hooks spaced about 18'' apart.   90% of fish caught are on the bottom hook, about 12'' off the bottom
