Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

How many people on here love to fish bluegills and other panfish with a drop shot rig?

I just started using a drop shot rid late last fall. It was very sucsessful on cooler water fish. I have fished on the bottom for shell crackers and plan to try a drop shot rig in those situations this spring. So time will tell if I love it or not.

it was a top producer for me in quality and quantity of gills especially summer peak and post summer periods...

I think Keith is right...the drop shot is effective on the shellcrackers, especially during pre-sawn to just after spawn. Once weed growth or algae sets it, it gets tough to drop shot those shallow Delmarva lakes you fish, Mike.

If I were you I'd certainly give it a try this spring with small live worms or grass shrimp.

Exactly what I was thinking Jim, one trip last year we weren't getting many bites throwing crickets under floats. So I took my float off and drug my cricket along the bottom and caught 10 to 1 more fish than my wife who kept with the float rig. They were all shell crackers too.

Seems to I catch bigger fish when I drop shot as opposed to using a bobber. And I love to feel that thump when he grabs my bait!
