Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

up here in DE our main live bait for gills is night crawlers. i experimented with crickets earlier in the year and caught a few fish but know i could have done better. any advice would be appreciated like how to rig them and where to fish them.

I usually use a drop shot with a size 10 hook and small spilt shot on the bottom. I also use a carolina rig with the same stuff as the drop shot
I have found that baby clams from a can at the supermarket work much better than crickets as they are tougher and harder for the fish to pull off the hook. Which is what happens with crickets. BGBM must stick them on with superglue, as he has amazing success with them.
They don't even sell them for bait up by me in Northern Ill, but they sell big just a few hrs South in Indiana.....Crawlers are a staple in these parts.....Crickets are sold here in pet stores for lizard food.
Crickets rock up in northern MN during the mid-summer months as well. Tough part is keeping them on the hook. They're usually destroyed or taken off after the first nibble. The most under-utilized bait in my opnion has got to be the euro in the summer. Everyone goes nuts for eurolarvae in the winter, why not in the summer? They stay on the hook 10x better than any other live bait out there...
