Do you love big bluegill?
Yesterday, me and my uncle went out to Manchac fishing off I-55 between Laplace and Pontchatoula. It was a day off of work for both of us, so, in such cases, we usually want to go fishing if its not raining.
We were aware of the cold front and the temp drop that we had seen in recent days.
When I realized there were no perch of sacalait around, I began to use a watermelon/red Zoom Baby Brush Hog, and my uncle was throwing a purple plastic worm with a yellow tail. which is popular in our area.
I had the usual problems with the 6lb test on my spinning set up and it got all knotted up. I switched the bait over to the Zebco Z03, and no problems after that.
I was fishing in about 8 ft of water. My cellphone buzzed, and I had one hand on the phone, one hand on the rod. Something nearly pulled the pole out of my hand, and by the time I set the phone down to set the hook, the fish was gone. ARGGHHHHHHHHHHH
My uncle, about an hour later, got a good hit with the plastic worm and set the hook, it was about a 2lb bass, but when it came out of the water, it threw the hook.
After that...the day went dead. No more bites, nothing.
Id say the temperature drop was about 13 degrees. Maybe next time bring a depth finder and go looking for fish. I am not much of a deep water fisherman, mostly swamp and bayou.
