Do you love big bluegill?
Really enjoyed this interview Bruce!Excellent 20 minutes of bluegill ice fishing talk!!
Fatheads for Gills thru the ice huh .I found that intriquing !,also the concept of being "vertically mobile" may have been the most important thing for me listening.I have a bad tendency to just work close to bottom and forget to carefully work the upper levels of the column.I suppose this is very important as a midday choice if sunlight penetration is getting plankton and fish moving higher off bottom. This year there has always been much snow cover on the ice and little sunlight penetration where I 've been fishing and everthing I've caught is close to bottom .It could be that I have been under fish however.
With mid-ice being tough I will remember to be vertically mobile as well as horizontally.
Thanks Bruce!
Oh and when is the Condello Cooking show gonna be broadcasted?
this year with a far up the tail hooked fathead on a Nungesser spoon or a Kastmaster I got Yellow Perch no gills though . The many up to 8" gills in the area fell for marmooskas/mealworms or spikes.
you guys experiment with dead salted minnows? No gills this year but Perch and Crappie lke them . If they are big I just use the head section only. Pinheads (small fatheads ) are used whole on the end of a slender style spoon . Works for WPerch ,YPerch and Crappie.I think it's only a matter of time before I catch a good BGill using this tecnique.
