Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Berkley gulp alive waxies or magots, has anyone tried them?

I just ordered some micro-spoons from www.microspoons.com wanted to try them on the winter bluegill here on Percy Priest. Want to try tipping them with the gulp alive waxies. Read a post at another sight that said they work well, and stay on thru several fish. Has anyone tried these or the micro-spoons, and what was your result. I may try to go out Sunday after church and give them a try. Thanks in advance for any replies. Tom

Hey Tom I tried Gulp maggots(white) ice fishing and didn't score with them.Waxworms, mealworms,Buttermorms were the baits that caught.I'll try them at ice out.My brother caught a nice bass useing a piece of Gulp nightcrawler on a Genz Worm though.
I finnally caught some gills on Berkeley maggots. The wax worms got them turned on then I switched to Berkley Maggotts and caught several. The claim that it oufishes live bait is possibly only when one does what I did.It does stay on the hook well and lends itself to getting back to where the fish are faster and gettin them while they are hot.

I still would like to see a situation where it turns them on initially though. At any rate I was glad they way they helped me out...saving on fresh bait and catching quickly.I 'm liking the stuff now.
Gulp products are pretty important to my overall armamentarium. They seem to never outperform live bait when the fish are picky, but when the fish are on a really good bite, the gulp is much cleaner to handle, and stays on the hook better so it is therefore more efficient and cheaper to use.

On a 1-10 scale for me, if the "bite" is a 7 or higher, I'm likely to get out the gulp product and start using it.

I like chartreuse as a favorite color.
Two years ago when I am in Florida and I can't find live bait around Disney area! Only Nightcrawlers available from Walmart so I bought Gulp Maggots. I used 1/80 oz red plain jighead with Gulp maggot. Lot of bluegills, some bass, crappie and large golden shiners! I also use it to catch large wild shiner for bait to catch big bass. I like Gulp Maggots and use it a lot since! I caught some fish on gulp maggot thru ice fishing but I perfer live bait! If ice fishing is hot and live bait ran out then I grab my gulp maggot!
Gulp maggot is great like lure with smell, taste and soft!
I agree with bruce 100%. I do like it and prefer live bait to it. But, for convenience you can't beat it. It is tougher than live bait and withstand several fish without coming off the hook. IT WILL NOT DIE. As well, you wife will not throw it away if she finds it in the fridge.
LOL! Good one, Panfish Pat. :-)
Thats why we have a second fridge in the garage. I have been known to keep all kinds of things in there. Sometimes when I have to work 2-11 I'll fish the morning and put the uncleaned fish in a sealed bucket in the fridge and clean the next morning. My wifes real good about it all, and she loves to eat the fish.
I agree with Bruce. If they are really active then Gulp is awesome, if they aren't then it doesn't seem to work as well as something natural to intice a bite. When I use Gulp plastic worms for bass often gills will bite off the ribbon tail. After that I just cut the body of the worm up into bluegill size pieces and they work great.
You would think I would learn not to leave it on my hooks after fishing. Time and time again I'm cussing myself as I try to remove the rock hard piece of gulp from a hook.
